In that case its probably better to get a wife from another faction, espicially the one, with which you want to enhcance your diplomacy.

Besides, 25 points of reputation is not cheap for a lottery of a humble bonus, which may even be negative.

Actually, as for majority of political actions, I understand the concept of the cost. Thing is that since its impossible to implement multiple micromanagement and micro conflict situations into such game, they had to impose some sort of limitations to the quantity of available actions.
But as for finding a random bride it seems too expensive for a prince.
At least they could have offered a choice for the price
