What's with the Hunnic general's strange swords?
Has anybody else noticed after winning a battle as the Huns how strange the sword the general uses is? It's only in the campaign map animations for killing another general, in actual battle they seem to use lances/spears.

It might just be my settings, but to me the sword used looks like a very dark, blunted blade, with no point whatsoever. I know the Roman cavalry spatha had a blunted tip so the wielder wouldn't skewer his own foot while riding, but not as pointless as this sword. It barely looks like it could stab anything, so it seems weird seeing it impale an enemy general in full scale-maille armor. And when you look at the mounted hunnic warbands in game, they use what looks like a nice shiny steel celtic straightsword, with a noticable point. And is that accurate, anyway? I was under the impression that the Huns used Sassanid style straightswords, without the classic celtic branched pommel and crossguard. Although I'm sure historically they chose weapons based on what was locally available, and there wasn't a standard-issue weapon.

Maybe in a month or two there will be a mod to make the weapons a bit more historically accurate, not that it really affects gameplay or my enjoyment of the game. Honestly, I'm just a sucker for authenticity in historical games like this, but I enjoy the game even when it's completely inaccurate. I'm just curious if there's any actual reasoning behind the weapons they've given the Huns in game?

EDIT: Some of the generals actually do seem to have hunnic straightswords, with a simple guard and fairly triangular blade. But the main family members generally seem to use the weird, long, thin, pointless stick-sword.

I'm well aware of the sword of Attila, or "Sword of Mars." The sword the generals use is not curved, doesn't have an angled handle, has no gold ornamentation... It really doesn't look like any sort of sword I know, certainly not the legendary sword of Attila. The real sword of Attila is in the style of a Sassanid cavalry sword, which is not represented in any of the Hunnic units in-game.

And no, that's not a bad angle with them in shadow, the sword really just seem to be completely dark. It only rarely reflects. Is this the case for other people? Or am I having a texture issue?

Really doesn't look anything like the Sword of Attila to me, using this picture as my comparison. https://stresseffect.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/sword-of-attila.jpg

It is not definite that that sword is Attilas and so there is a lot of leeway in representing it. The one in your screen looks more like something you would find in a field, or it could be just a bad model.
