Gaets seems to be the easiest proto vikings factions. They begin with 2 armies, and a big settlement, so they can have a big army in a few turns (4*4 = 16 units in 4 turns, and they begin with 2 armies of app. 10 units).
Jutes comes next, they have one army but Angles are though.
Danes are the hardest factions, beeing surronded by Gaets, Jutes and some other factions ...
Maybe the best solution is just to leave, become a horde, and try on an other land. With their special skills, you can go where you want on the sea, and land on an easy territory to capture and begin a new life :p
Screw that, dont fight your viking brothers!
Do fight your viking brothers! Either conquer them or subjugate them, but don't ally them. They are terrible allies when raiding any place. They will always peacefull occupy any place you've sacked. Taking them out of the picture and you are allowed to raid anything without any diplomatic awkwardness.
I did manage to conquer that area on a 56th playthrough. I basically sold my first daughter to the Geats for a non-aggression pact and that made it loooaaaads easier not having to deal with him. The Jutes start off pretty nice to the Danes so they are not much of an issue. I took over the...Vis...the guys to the south and subjegated them and had them help me take the province next to it and what do ya know im a legitimate fighting force all the sudden. Eliminating the option of getting scissored in the beginning of the game apparently is a key strategy.
Strategy 1
Strategy Difficulty Hard
So just to be clear your taxes should be on very high until your settlement revolt and you should be making a trade agreement with Western Roman Empire Immediately you will want to build a trading port and a building to train horse units and brigands with this strategy you will not get all of the bonus objectives complete. So dont try. Do not attack the Saxons. Their units are superior to user for now. try your hardest to get cash from diplomacy every turn it wont always work but you never know.
So turn 1 set taxes to high take your armies into Geat territory and hire all the mercs in the area especially that catapaults also hire every ship you can with your navy you can whipe the Geats out of the game as early as turn 2 or 3. Taking this settlement will boost your economy nicely. Try your hardest to take out their armies 1 by if possible but you are going to want to make it a real time battle more than likely to defeat their armies alway go for the generals whenever possible when viking faction loses their general all of their troops moral are so low that any blow to almost any unit will immediately make them retreat.
This is completely devastating to not only your enemies but to yourself as well. You will want to unlock the brigands unit as soon as possible this is the viking strongest unit along with their spear men dont get the sword man unit that you can train at the begining there moral is so low that they are virtually unusable. They are really there as decoy units really. or units you can trick the AI into attacking so you can perform a more devastating attack on them
So now that you have taken the settlement to the north get rid of some of those expensive mercs you cant afford them now anyways. take your armies back to Hafyn and prepare an assault on the settlement to the south. You will want to conquer them sack the settlement and subjugate it. This will help you gain some extra cash and give you a valuable ally. This should be completed around turn 6 or 7. The tribe to the right of them will now surely be attacking your new allies which is not good for you. Leave your army in this area and try to ambush their army when they come to attack your ally to destroy their army after you do that hire some more mercs and sack their settlement and subjugate them.
While your are in the middle of taking that settlement take your navy and send it close to the Rugians settlement and wait for their army that they will eventually send to conquer your lands over by sea take this army out and you will have bought yourself some much needed time. Because your armies should be on the point to where there is not much left of it.
After you have done all of this prepare your army to attack the Jutes take their settlement and then send your navy to the Franks and take their settlement as well.
Early on the Franks do some interesting moves that youll want to pay attention to. They take all of their forces and they go raid England leaving their home territory completely undefended! But this differs sometimes its kind of like luck of the draw the Franks does 1 of 3 moves on every playthrough the most likely option is the one I just said. 2 They might just sit at home or 3 they will begin attacking southward and eventually going to war with the saxons.
Strategy 2
Strategy Difficulty Very Very Hard
Set Taxes to Very High build a trading port and a building to train horses in Hafyn
Befriend the Geats on turn 1 and attack the southern settlement sacking and subjugating them. then attack the Angles while they are attacking the Jutes and sack and subjugate . Now the Rugians are attacking you and the Burgundians are attacking your ally. you should have been building a navy while your army is subjugating these territories. Now send it to attack the Rugians army while they are in the sea. roughly around turn 6 give or take 2 turns. so defeat both armies and set your war targets against them. Then attack the Franks and take their settlement.
No move on to attack the Jutes and claim their settlement when you do this be prepared economically to deal with revolts in Hafyn and in your Frankish territory and then be ready for a possible invasion by the Geats and Rugians or just the Rugians depending on how high you diplomacy is with the Geatrs by this time. They are friendly with the Jutes and this will attack will upset them. After you repel again another attack from one or both factions attack the Geats and take their settlement. It will not be easy they should have 3 flagged armies by now. Attempt to get their armies into the water and kill them there more than likely wont happen but if the AI is being stupid which sometimes it is take advantage of it. After taking the settlement rest your armies and stabalize your practically crippled economy. should take roughly 6 turns.
Now prepare to attack the Rugians with 2 armies and a navy take their settlement. From here out you are on your own because this part changes alot depending on play through you will either find out if youve lost because you will take this settlement and the burgundians would have take out one of your allies or all of the Burgundians allies will now decide to attack you which is total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. if either happens its time to proceed to strategy 3
Strategy 3
Strategy Difficulty Easiest of the Three but not the funnest in my opinion
Abandon everything and sack and loot everything while heading to Spain or England travel by sea preferably and loot by sea. rely on your navy. while avoiding roman armies. if you decide late game migration head to France to claim a weakened Romes territories.
Hope This helps let me know if you find anything better because I am not happy with these strategies as it feels like this is a giant work around to stay in my homeland which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Ah, so ... (sorry for off topic) but you see... I have not big experience in TW but hey, also as migration (there are building choices to make.. especially to reach the Onager! which is useful with heavy infantry enemies...)
Well i dnt remember a game so hard like this...
I think the hardened the code or something or there are more complexities going on.
I am talking anyway from a low experience point of view.
I just discovered how much trade routes ON SEA raiding is useful.
The problem is... isn't it better to do that raiding with a little crew (yes risk of being attacked .. attack magnet) instead of doing it with a huge army (in water)
ok.. i have sooo many questions and talks i would like to have because early hours are a nightmare with this game.. maybe early I mean early 60 hours .. especially if u are like me and like the challenge of hard or hardest difficulty and NO HUD in general as I play for immersion games like that (not that I brag to do this nor i do no HUD a lot in TW.. no ..but u know How i am at least).
but if there's still people playing Attila- could i get feedback on this post re: Ostrogth start?
That's spam. Unnecessary bragging (how old are you?)
