Axe vs Sword?
Hi,
i didn't played rome 2 so i have some newbie question. Why would i choose sword and shield infantry over Axe and Shield? Considering axe seems to have the same advantage except it does far more damage and pierce armor. Easy exemple, why recruit Sword Heerbann over axe Heerbann? How should i put them to use?

Just seems like It's some melee damage Increase for sword and they're cheaper by 100.

swords should technically be better over time while axes should be better in the charge

Just like how spearmen should wreck cavalry but they don't.

light armoured spear men wont do very much vs heavily armoured cav

just because someone is using a spear doesnt instantly make it better than X

pikes are far better vs cav spears are better used to hold defensive lines or to be used as fodder since they usually carry the biggest shields

Spear wins against axe and loses against swords, and axes are usually only good as shock troopers, they are terrible in a long fight.There is no "better", it depends on what you are fighting with what.

Ok so there really isn't a paper/rock/scissors here. Just checking. I would have thought maybe spears could gain value vs axes - axes gain value vs armor (usually sword) - and sword gain value vs spear.
