How do you raise the Fertility level?
Anyone know or does it just raise on it's own?

You don't. According to the game and the encyclopedia all it takes is time. However, if you're playing as any of the Norse tribes, just seriously take the abandoned settlement on the east coast of the Baltic Sea. I played 25 turns waiting for that region's fertility to go up and ended up having to kick out the local tribe in order to take the settlement, creating another war I didn't need.

In all that time, the fertility of that particular province didn't rise one bit.

That's pretty stupid. There should be some way to raise it.

There is only 1 tip. Hordes seriously ruin the regions fertility. It was mentioned long ago in one of the dev's videos. So do not allow some vagabonds to settle in your territory.

The fertility does raise over time -- but only when it's been depleted below its base, for instance by a Razing or Migration.

The low ferirlity is supposed to be one of the biggest challenges of the game, as the climate changes and the fertitlty lowers it forces the germanic factions to either migrate or look for alternative means to eat. (fishing jetties)

How is the climate changing? I don't see any SUV's in the unit list?

Heh!

It's always done that on it's own. To hear the DOOM!ers tell it, the earth's climate has been static throughout human civilization's time but that's nonsense.

Of course, the climate change in this period was the beginning of the "Little Ice Age" that came before the Medieval Warm Period.

So the agricultural buildings won't be as effective shortly after the game starts, when the change event hits. But expanding south to, literally, greener pastures means you'll hit all the Horde traffic heading south & west. Bit of a trade-off.

Nobody who is actually coming to the table with any sort of intellectual integrity espouses the belief that the Earth's climate has been static. That's an unfair and lazy dismissal of the consensus of 99% of the world's climate scientists that this most recent and more dramatic change over the last century is inextricably linked to human activity and does threaten the survival of many species, including our own if we keep (figuratively) excreting waste where we eat.

Your perception of those with which you disagree is cloudy and the way you express your disdain for them speaks volumes regarding the content of your character.

Mother earth idiots speaks again. No earths climate havent been static its 3 known iceages for gods sake and its coming another 1 in 35-50k years (♥♥♥♥♥♥) at the Cretaceous, Jurassic and the Triassic there were NO SUCH THINGS A THUNDRA OR POLAR ICE!!! Also recent result from the idiots incline that the ammount of oxygen on the planet also affects the temperature.
Further more during the end of Cretaceous 95% of everything in the water died and 70% on land so please SHUT THE ♥♥♥♥ UP ABOUT IT!!!! Only thing that is a real problem is the poisoning of the drinkable water.

You can't because a mild cold snap means fallout level apocalypse where nothing grows and everybody starves to death.

Clean air and water are valuable in their own rights. climate change is a distraction to give idiots that do not understand that something to fight about.

Yeah, you have no control over the fertility: so time, migrating, and making the most of your food-producing buildings are your best friends.

There is, however, a mod that adds +1 level to fertility for all regions:

Keep in mind that this is not save game compatible.

Also, if I remember correctly, I believe the Burgundians have a trait that allows them to better deal with climate change.
