The difficulty for the Western Roman is VERY HARD, expect to lose cities thats just the way it is. Eastern Romans is LEGENDARY and is hard as ♥♥♥. These are for experts of total war series and require a lot of thinking and knowledge of the game to play and be successful. Find another faction that is set to easy.

personally i found the eastern romans easy, the huns requested peace with me minutes into the game leaving me to happily clear out the ostrogoths and watch the western romans pushed into spain within 20 turns. if you plan to play as the west empire, prepare your butt

Well WRE is legendary and ERE is very hard :p . But yeah i agree a good strategy is needed for playing as them . Even factions who are tagged hard , are for the first time i think on TW really hard ^^ .

Im currently playing as the western roman empire on hard.

winter 398

Lost britania
lost nearly all of the balkans

The german border got plundered 200 times
Lost lybia
war in north africa
Got betrayed by the eastern roman empire
Paying tribute to the huns every turn.
Low on food
Income 2761 atm

Now i stabilised spain and italy got 1 full stack in middle france now 1 in venice and 1 in Carthage

I could make this when i play my cards right.

But man... this required alot of brainpower and micromanagement

Love every second of it.

I plan to upload this campaign no matter if i lose or win via the new feature :D

Playing as WRE on hard and i'm in 411 AD so it's going okay. However i'm facing constant invasions through the alps from seperatists and barbarians being faced off by my overwhelmed 3 armies while a Pict fleet is sitting off Sardinia very threateningly. It's stable right now as I've staved off famine, bankruptcy and disease for a few years now but I only have 3 provinces and even had to abandon Southern Italy to stave off rebellion. Loving it<3

Really want to see that ^^ look like a lot of fun ( and a lot of trouble xD)

The Western Roman Empire is said to be a survival challenge... so you really cant win. All those barbarian factions outnumber you and nobody likes you... Not even the Eastern Empire. XD

i would sooner understand what he said if it was latin.

The only strategy appear to be as follows:

Choose 3 or 4 armies and slowly build them up over time while the rest of the empire crumbles around you and falls to Barbarians. When those 3 or 4 armies are of sufficient strength, strike back and take what was lost.
Justin Feb 18, 2015 @ 2:49pm
Play on easy and you will kick ass. Make the huns look like babies.
Machin Shin Feb 18, 2015 @ 2:53pm
maybe play an easier faction then? omf..
Maff Feb 18, 2015 @ 2:58pm
Seems like you need to withdraw from a lot of frontiers, which is quite interesting. I will say that the WRE intro's end that suggested after all the potential loss, Rome strike out and become the great power it once was definitely got me pumped!
