Belisarius: No Independence Run
Okay, so in the Last Roman campaign I have tried to play Belisarius while remaining loyal to the Roman Empire so I could check out the intrigue mechanics that were advertised. So far, none of my playthroughs have ended very well. Even when I follow all of Justinian's demands, along with any side quests that don't piss him off, he still cuts off my funding way before I have had a chance to truly defeat the Ostrogoths, and usually while the (completely ahistorical) Moorish invasion is going on. As such, no matter how much I try to prepare for it by developing my expedition economy, I still end up having to disband most of my troops in order to remain solvent, to the point where I am no longer able to deal with either the Moors or the Ostrogoths. If I disobey Justinian and, say, go with one of Theodora's orders, I still end up getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and end up having to start over. What I am saying is, in my experience so far it is actually way easier to declare independence than it is to stay loyal to the roman empire, which seems kind of stupid IMHO. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it even remotely worth it to remain loyal to Constantinople?

Same for me. Guess Justinian was programmed to be total dic k, just like in real life

i think the game pushes the conflict at some point for whatever reason the design team chose to do it that way.
