Which wise guy of you thought "Oh I like Game of Thrones" make it a Total War: Winter is coming but in our world?

Besides the still confusingly stupid AI on the Campaign map THIS has to be the single worst idea you ever had.

ACtually it's totally possible to have snow in Egypt. You see nights are cold in desert. Pretty big failure for egyptologist not to know this.

Also haven't seen any stupid move from A.I that wouldn't have happened in previous TW games.

Edit: I find it bit hilarious that almost everyone on this thread knew more about egypt than egyptologist.

So Egypt really does have snow.
wm.j.olson 2015 年 6 月 29 日 上午 8:37
It snows on occasion along the Mediterranean coast as far south as northern Egypt. Not an annual occurance but not impossible. It's generally only a dusting, up to an inch or so, and melts quickly. Cairo got snow in December, 2013 that dust-covered the Pyramids. Jerusalem got 10 inches of snow in January, 2015. There was also a short cold period from 420 CE to around 500 CE in which the area covered in the game experienced increased cold weather. This is, perhaps, reflected in the game dynamics with its climate change effect depressing crop production. There was another cold period, much longer and drastic, starting sometime in the 1300s, intensifying around 1500 and lasting until the middle of the 19th century. Give the game designers some credit for doing their homework. There are more things in heaven and earth, my dear Horatio, than are contained in your philosophy.

It is not completley unplausable that it didn't snow, there are sources that in the year 401 the Pontus sea froze for 20 days, at the same time the Thames was frozen for two months, and the sea was frozen between Constantinople and Scutari. In the year 400 the Black sea froze completely. That's some pretty extreme weather, they didn't make it like Game of Thrones, it was like that in most parts of Europe, so what if over exaggerate it it a little bit?

Actually it IS snow. It's EXACTLY the same animation as snowfall when you fight up north. It's SUPPOSED to be snow. They paint Attila as the harbinger of the Apocalypse. And to the Egyptians snow would surely seem apocalyptic when folks freeze to death in the streets.

And jfyi it DID snow in Egypt in ancient times. It's recorded history. An egyptologist should know this. It actually even snows in Egypt NOWADAYS!

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/12/13/snow-egypt-middle-east_n_4438571.html

Please don't be ignorant and spread misinformation. ESPECIALLY not whilst saying you are an expert of the region, aka Egyptologist!

Oh man I am just answering for the ignorant portion. so please give me your sources because I cannot recall for the love of god any blizzard which covered ancient egypt or the pre medieval era egypt in a way that is depicted here. If you tell me any source I will read it and consider it. DO not however quote the ancient greek historians because they tend to exaggerate a whole lot.
Thanks for the source for climate change in modern times. BTW I am not an expert of the region (I am somewhat an expert in the languages and culture of ancient egypt) and as I stated I (that is me for your information) can NOT recall reading anything as the likes of that. Neither in ancient egypt history nor in ancient greek history. (And yes I am counting until almost 700)

Sure there was snow but I bet you never to that extend in THAT particular region, Your source of the HuffPo also states it is the Sinai peninsula.... which wasn't part of ancient egypt most of the time.

Really 2 people correcting me on that there can be snow in egypt. Since I was in the desert I know it can be cold... you know why it is so cold? BECAUSE THERE ARE NO FREAKING CLOUDS. We had one evening driving from the Dachla Oasis southwards through the desert where the whole sky was clouded and our guide predicted a storm (which fortunatly didn'T happen) and you know what? It 2as 20 degrees Celsius outside at 2 am. So yeah let it snow. Thanks.

Now could everyone who thinks he knows more than me stop calling me ignorant or pick on my studies but state it wiht sourcematerial. Than I believe that.

Sources for my story in this post would be pictures of us in the night desert. Since I will not show pictures of people and I don't want to photoshop them because than everyone will cry that it is manipulated, you just have my word. For all the other things like blizzards in ancient egypt, I am searching like a bloodhound but with no avail so far. I found raining frogs... but no blizzard of that magnitude.

Yeah because climate didn't change AT ALL the past 1300 years did it?

Did you see the Nile... it looks like 2000 years ago... for sure...

Are you from there?

Sure it changed, but I just had to point out what you were saying. As far as my knowledge of tracing ancient snowfall goes it's like saying that you can't trust someone's account of it raining because we can't find fossilized rain or something.

A sorry mistook you for the other guy. The colour of the avatar is so similar.
Yeah you're right but I can#t even find accounts or any other scriptures about snowfall in egypt. And they wrote abour raining frogs, which is actually quite possible. So I guess it could be possible but I think they would have covered it as some plague from the gods if it was that much that it covered everything from Thebes to Alexandria ;)

I don't know much (read: anything) about the weather in Egypt, past or present, so I can't really help you there. My only thoughts are that either snow was more common back then and thus less of a shock than it would be today, nobody really had the presence of mind to write about it, or that any records regarding the incident have been lost or destroyed over the years. Or that it never actually happened, I don't know.

Now this is the answer I was looking for. Sorry I overread it over the whole "ignorant" Storm.
The 1300 that one actually I remember readinig about.
The other one... is there any source because for the love of god I cannot find any source material. This is agonizing.
And thanks for the smart remark at the end. This is not my phlosophy but my science... ;)

And why is it relevant that there is no cloud? It's like you're trying to establish authority again after failing badly with your previous attempt.

"Now could everyone who thinks he knows more than me stop calling me ignorant or pick on my studies but state it wiht sourcematerial."
You just admitted that it can be -20 degrees. And there are cases when rains in desert. Hence it's rare but possible to have snow in desert.

It snowed in Egypt two years ago.. and there was enough to stick for awhile. When i was deployed to iraq in 2007-2008 it snowed as far south as Baghdad, but not long enough to really stick.
