Rome 2 is good if you want a big variety between factions, from Greeks, Romans, Iberians, Celts, Germans and more. Rome 2 is also better optimised and is now a solid and well polished game. It also includes 2 campaigns with the main game, and a fair choice of factions to choose from off the bat.

Attila visually, looks quite a lot better than Rome 2, including better textures, and little things like sun glare off metal surfaces. All of the graphic improvements combined makes the game quite beautiful. Attila is also much more atmospheric and adds almost a storylike feeling when playing a faction as you have to not only satisfy your goals of conquest, but fend off the hordes of Huns, and the ever increasing effects of climate change. It is important to note, however, that this is a new game and will perform much worse than Rome will, on any computer.

In terms of money, Rome 2 is much better value, as it is 75% off, which means you can get the game with all dlc really cheap, and you will have 5 campaigns and over 30 factions to choose from in grand campaign. Like I said, these have a huge range in culture with very different units and rosters going across Europe.

For pretty much the same price, you can get Attila without any DLC which only has one campaign and about 12 factions to play on it, note that most of these factions only really fall into 5 categories, Romans, Huns, Germans, Normadic Germans and the Eastern Sassannids. each category will pretty much have the same units, with a few unique units in each faction.

I would personally reccommend Rome 2 at the moment, especially is finance is in consideration as it is 75% off, but don't get me wrong, Attila is a very good game, but by the time you've had some fun with everything Rome has to offer, Attila will be cheap on a sale, and you can get that too, where it will be in a better state, and have more DLC and general content in the game.

I hope this helped!

Shogun 2
one is bad and the other one is even worse
Since your profile is invisible I can't tell if this question is from someone who has Rome 2 and wants to know if they should buy Attilla, or if it's someone who has neither game and is trying to choose one to buy.

Both games are the same if you want to be simplistic. Both games are very different if you want to talk about both game mechanics (politics, hordes, climate change in Attilla), and the campaigns in Attilla are a notch more interesting and dynamic because of said Attilla and climate change and politics.

If you have neither game, Rome 2 is easier and has a greater variety of nations (by Attilla much of the world is "Romanized" and there are fewer glaring cultural differences...but they are still there). If you have Rome 2 and enjoyed it, and like this period in time (Rome fighting to survive, Attilla grinding everything into the dust, and everyone else just trying to pick up the pieces), then Attilla is a good buy.
Thanks for answers! I never played rome 2 or attila but i loved Empire Total War. Are rome 2 and attila similar with empire total war or are they different games?
Empire Total War has a large focus on combat with firearms, which means that generally the combat will be very much different. In terms of gameplay, it's important to note the difference in time between the two games, Empire has emphasis on gunpower, ships and trade, whereas Rome and Attila have emphasis on full on, bloody battles. It is all really the same concept, just with new mechanics and ideas put in.

For example, the new generals system; where every army MUST have a general, the new province system; where multiple towns form together to make a province and each town in one province share abilities and bonuses from each town.

An example of this is if you have a miliraty building in one of your towns, you will be able to recruit the units available to that building in any territory in that province, not just the town you built it in.

In general, Rome 2 and Attila are very different to Empire, but of course, they are still Total War games, and a lot of it is very similar.
If you like gunpowder era warfare, I highly recommend getting Fall of the Saumrai for Shogun 2 (I think it's standalone). You have the cool Japanese castles but you will be fighting with many modern units, and some mechanics like offshore artillery support make it a fun title, if not as epic as the full campaign from Empire Total War.

I really enjoy both Rome 2 and Attila, though the campaigns in Attila play a lot differently than in Rome since Attilla not only is really difficult to get rid of, but because until he dies for good, you will be facing stacks after stacks of fear-causing troops that will ruin your week. Not to mention, climate change during Attilla means you will end up dealing with starvation and being forced to create a lot more food buildings than you would otherwise. You'll also want to make food buildings that are less dependant on soil fertility because the soil becomes barren on over half the map.

But, I think the most fun and challendge I've had in Total War games has been in the fall of the western empire scenario...just as fun as it was in Rome:Barbarian Invasion, but much harder.
Zimbade I'd stress it like Father Ribs already did: you like gunpowder. Get Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai!

I really really liked Napoleon Total War and Fall of the Samurai is an awesome standalone Add-On with Gatling Guns, Parrot and Armstrong Guns, Marines, heavy Warships and more stuff. You should definitely try this one

Get over it already. I'm sure you're also excited for Total War-Hammer as well I bet. :calm_creep:
Honestly 2 things determines for me Total War game - campaign map and political situation on it - i.e Napoleon is imo one of best in series but got totally crapy and boring map/situation. And second fact but most important is how much and which mods are made fot this TW, bekause most of players know that vanilla is usually crap and mods are making TW fine.

"campaign map and political situation"

Um, Paradox also do these things and does it much better too. Total War is really about the battles.

Heh...I remember playing Shogun 1. The only thing that Shogun 1 was better at were the cool assasination videos. I miss those dearly. The combat on the other hand was horrible...units would stay in long rectangles, nagitana troops were in terminator armor, sieges were a mess because units wouldn't conform to the organic shapes of castles, etc.

But when you saw a Geisha start strolling toward your general...uh uh.

Yeah the video cutscenes were the best, I love the ending especially too. The combat was revolutionary at the time! LOL there's definitely something about hundreds of sprites doing battle that I find adorable.
