Judea now Oriens?
Noticed that Judea is now going by Oriens after the latest patch. I wonder why this was changed, but more importantly, who is Oriens? I've never heard of them, and searching for them brings me to nothing related to this time period besides a term used for Roman coins.

Does anyone know who Oriens is?

Oriens...a general term meaning "of the east."

Didn't know that.

Wonder why they'd change Judea to a 'of the east'. Seems very strange.

The Orient is usually an archaic term for Asia

Still doesn't explain why they changed it months after release.

By way of speculation, refering to Judeans as Oriens could be in fact more historically accurate. The Judeans rebelled against Rome in 70AD. The Romans put-down the uprising and destroyed the last temple. They also renamed the province Palestine in honor of the Philistines which was a way of rubbing salt into the wound.

In other words, Judea (and Judeans) had ceased to exist as an independent cultural and political state. They came back into existence in 1948, but with a different name, as we all know.

Why did CA make this change at this time? I don't know. I am pretty absolutely almost certain, however, that a writer for Attila took a couple of summer classes at an extension of Oxford University, and he learned some new things. He petitioned his boss for two or three months to use Oriens rather than Judeans. Finally, after many fish-and-chip lunches (treats of the writer), the change was made.

actually the Jewish revolted in 66 AD when the then governor of Rome in Judea confiscated 17 talents of gold from the temple treasury. They massacred the roman trere. Then Cestius Gallus was sent to try to quell the rebellion. For unexplained reasons Gallus retreated from Jerusalem. In 70 AD Titus Vespasian Encricled and captured Jerusalem.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. Makes more sense now!

In the game db tables they have always been called Oriens, not Judea, they were only called Judea in the GUI in game, it never made any sense to me why they only called them Judea on the surface and not in the mechanics of the game.

It seems more like they were going to call them Oriens all along and only used Judea at launch as people might relate to the positioning on the map? - That's pure speculation though.
