I've never used the steam workshop before and have an initial question about the load order, I've only added a few small mods so far, does the manager add them in what it thinks is the best order or just the order in which you downloaded them?

Hey there, what has worked for me so far, that you enable the mods you want to use regardless to the load order. Afterwards, use the filter above "Active" in the mod manager. This shows the list of your enabled mods only. Press the gear icon in the left bottom in the manager, and reset the load order in that active mods list. Then press Play.
This way you did the safe procedure that worked for me and found the effects of all mods I enabled.

Though, make sure you are not using overlapping mods, like don't use two mods that works for diplomacy. This means that you critically need to read each mod description carefully. And be ware of the overhaul mods coz they change some roots in the game rules, and if you disabled it after so many turns, it may ruin the save game file, forcing you to either keep using the mod or starting from before using it.

And I must admit that I'm regretful. I never used mods in any game before, and this was for years of gaming. Like I like everything original and vanilla, but this time I thought I'd give it a shot.

Now I found the mods is so interesting and used it in my mid grand campaign, and it took away good portion of the thrill and challenge of the game. Like there is nothing harder and any problem I find I can solve it with a press button.

It's just my personal experience and it doesn't conditionally applies on everyone.

So, the approach that I advice, use the mods that it make sense and logical to use and enhances the game experience, and also keep the thrill and challenge.
