Rush to Comitatensis Spears

I feel that as the Western Roman Empire Comitatensis Spears is a real quality of life improvment.

It's not that there aren't other improevments. Legio for instance are better than the tier I units. Protectores Domestici are better than the Palantina (which honestly I think are crap and not worth recruiting). Armigeri Defensores in the Palatina line may be a bit more suceptible than the spear units against missiles, but they can hit like bricks against enemy sword infantry on the front, or even elite pikes (ok, somewhat due to a bug with pikes) and can demolish the Huns if the huns don't get their charge bonus (even with the -10 morale WRE has vs Huns). Equites Dalmatae are better than scout equites (even though they are technically seperate units, not an upgrade).

But I really feel that Comitatensis Spears really makes whttling down the enemies so much easier. I feel that this unit must be rushed and then civil technologies can be next.

Herculiani Seniores are a good reward for getting to the Tier 4 building in the mid-game.

Oh, They are AWESOME. I do not doubt this at all. I LOVE them. My only complaint about them is that it is a bit anti-role playing when you have 15 elite units in an army, but I lvoe using Seniores.

However, they require multiple techs to get. Comitatensis Spears is easy to get early game without negleting civic technologies.

And my point was that despite the stats not improving much, Comitatensis Spears seems to make life so much easier. I feel that I can focus on the economy once I unlock them.

Yeah Comitatensis are actually usable unlike those garbage Limitanei borderguard.

I know right? They are good at buying time and can hold out for awhile. You can't transfer them from one side of the battlefield to the other to plug a gap like celtic spears can, but if you put Comitatensis Spears in deployment where they need to go, they can do stuff.
