And btw, planning on not to abandon any settlements willingly alongside doing it a "this is total war" campaign. What could possibly go wrong?

The only point I am not shure is the behaviour of the Huns in Pannonia. There you will have permanent rebellions. You will have food shortage because of the raiding Huns. I don´t know if you accept the raids if they stay or return to Pannonia or if they try to enter Italy.

+ 1 Pannonia feels like the most troublesome area to defend and most likely to fall. If I remember correctly the alans will show up there aswell just a few turns in, we will see. Would make me glad if you show up in the comments and share you´re thoughts.

The Hercynians will struggle u in Pannonia too, it is not only the Huns, but u have good chances to subjugate or destroy the little Barbarians and Nomads like Quadians and Jazyges,

Yeah, the quadians will be destroyed turn 1 and have a plan for how I can possibly lure the Iazyges to destruction aswell the first few turns. We will see how that turns out!

I dont have the courage to try a this is total war with wre. The trade with ere is basically whats keeps the early game economy alive imo, having peace with north africans and not pump resources there is really niceand that border to the rhine is huge.

I dont have any real solid tips. I would problaby try to finish of some factions early on (quadians, caledonians, alemans) on turn 1, then withdraw a bit back. I dont see anyway to keep britain & pannonia for starter.

Good luck

I'm finally succeeding in a WRE campaign after 200 hours of playing the game, but I only have it on hard campaign / medium battles. It was rough as hell in the beginning. I tried my hardest to defend Britain but all I had there was one army of 10 units and I simply couldn't deal with the Caledonians, Ebdanians, Picts, Saxons and rebellions all at once, so I had to abandon it. I didn't actually click "abandon" or demolish any buildings, I just had to leave. Lost Belgium and most of Northern Gaul when Saxons and Alamans ganged up on me, though I managed to safely dispatch the Vandal horde there and defend the central/southern part.

Kept an army in Iberia and spent a hell of a lot of money stabilizing the situation there. It's the most peaceful region in my empire. North Africa was safe, I got lucky and those two African tribes behaved themselves. Italy and the small islands have been fine, Stilicho stays in that area whacking any moles that pop up, but the areas north and east of Italy had to be abandoned for the exact same reasons as Britain.

It's 405 AD now, I've taken back Gaul, puppeted the Garamantians, took back the province north of Italy (Augasta Vindelicorum?), forced the Alamans to make peace and trade with me after sacking their city, destroyed the Saxons and am ready to re-take Britain and sack/burn/raze the Picts, Ebdanians and Caledonians. My empire is well built up but public order is a never ending issue. I have 7 armies of between 15-20 units each and an income of 7k per turn.

Still not ready for the Huns to show up - if they showed up now they'd destroy my empire easily because I couldn't pull my armies out of the provinces or they'd rebel or get taken by barbarian scum. Lucky for me though Attila has only just been born.

The real good fighters take them out with mercenaries. I do not have the skills. I choosed Camulodunum as Fortress and defeated the invading Barbarians. In the other towns I build down. After a rebellion in Lindum I got Britannia as an ally. They smashed down any Rebellion in Ebruacum. The Picts did not come good into the game. I lost Seguntium to the Ebdani but I could defeat their troups in Corinium with the Garrison (a wonder). I hold Britannia Superior the whole game and controlled the North See from Camulodunum.

Fun to hear that you finally succeeded in the campaign with WRE! Sounds similar when I played this campaign a couple years ago (didn´t finish it). This tho will be a diffrent kind of beast but looking forward to the challenge and think I have a pretty good idea on what I have to do. Will I succed? We will find out.

Good luck on the rest of your campaign!
