Is Last Roman DLC worth getting?
I'm really not bugged by the smaller roster for the Romans. Sure the WRE and ERE get amazing units in the grand campaign, but what is the point of having them if the campaign is so miserable?

I was nearing 420 AD and have pretty much all of my territory, but whenever I fix my food shortage I find myself with sanitation trouble, fix that I get food shortages again, fix that I have rebellions popping up somewhere, and it goes on and on.

Sure this monotonous micro-management grind of a Rome gone to hell is a fun challenge at first, but a hundred turns in and no improvement and not even the best units unlocked ceases to be fun and makes me prefer the Franks and Saxons campaigns.

So my main question is If I enjoyed the Barbarian and Migrating factions of the grand campaign, but also wanted to succeed as a Roman faction, is this the DLC for me?

You'll probably like it if you like the idea of being a Roman horde faction. Its got a good story and event chain.

Barbarian kingdom factions are also playable but minimal effort was put into them. Just copy paste units and buildings, underdeveloped cities and really bad public order problems for some reason. Not much fun playing them, just the Roman expedition.

K cool. I tried simulating a barbaric faction start as the WRE in the grand campaign by abandoning every single settlement except the 4 near your capital and Italy/Sicily...but that was a mistake. After settling public order and getting a good income (took only a few turns) it was absolutely boring. None of the AI factions were settling the abandoned territories and it became an End Turn fest

I like this period of RE, Belisarius, Justinian, Theodora, Antonia etc. I also like R. Graves "Belisarius" novel, but for me this product only on occasional sales.

Ive only played Last Roman as Ostrogoths who are abit different from the other barbarian kingdoms in the game as they have a unit roster that features more Roman units so they offer a fairly unique playstyle so you might enjoy them if you want to play a Goth/Roman fusion faction.

I'd say just wait for the next sale as the other factions besides the Romans are incredibly boring as they are fairly copy and paste, that being said the Romans really stand out for amateur historians like myself who really love the time period and recreating Belisarius's campaign to rebuild the Roman world.

I'd give it a 7.5/10.

I totally turned it into a fantasy XD I rejected Justinian's orders by sailing to the European continent, declared war on the major factions except for the Franks, which pulled the Roman empire into those wars, I declared independence in Brittany, with the Franks as close allies. It's so fun and hilarious right now

I found the Last Roman DLC's Expedition campaign to be one of the most satisfying total war experiences I've encountered. Claiming settlements for Rome and moving on building the horde I never felt bogged down by the massive infastructure demands of managing the empire. It was fun to focus solely on strategic placement of my armies and eliminating one enemy at a time. It was also comforting to know that if I wanted to drop anchor and start a traditional campaign halfway through it would be on my terms in a world I had already molded in my own image.
