What am I doing wrong as the Danes?

Hi All,

I've played most of the Total War games and have never had as much difficulty as I do with this one.

I've played so many starts as Danes and within 10 turns I'm facing 2 or 3 full stack armies from either other Norse factions or from ones to the south. If I try to take my army to preempt an attack I get attacked by somebody else while my army is away. If I try to build up two armies I run out of money and then still get attacked by several massive stacks.

What's the way to play this faction?

Hmm..Danes is pretty easy. build any building with money in and make 2-3 army with cheap units (spear and archer) with only 4 axes(they are good to flak..make military alliance quick with all that can join empire...but not with with Nordalbingia,its that you attack and take hamburg to make more money and then attack Obodrite to take rostock with more money.

when money is ok then make food and farm and little trick is get some funds from familty..mean you need to Adopt general with great influen to into your fam.

then fun start...try join empire and attack england...best start is london and Canterbury so its easy to defender both city...trader is not easy they cost 3-6k to make one faction trader.

EDIT..OOPS i talk aboy AOC lol sorry. but same method with grand campaign but this time is a bit hard..defensive first and then try take one after one..gl

I don't know if you've noticted but early Norse units are really crappy. Makes there early campaign harder than most others imo. I usually turtle and try to research unit upgrade techs as fast as possible and only expand when I can sneakly take an undefended settlement until I have a decent army.

This is seriously the most difficult of all the total war games I've played. I'll just keep at it.

Attila is pretty tough but you might want to try another faction first since like I said, Norse units are really weak early game.

Ive ended up buying the AoC expansion since I'm mostly interested in Vikings (even tho Viking forefathers aren't really Viking). To be honest Attila is probably my least favourite time period to cover so for world conquest type games I'll probably return to Rome 2.
