Is charge bonus what defines a shock troop? What is "mass", exactly?
Seems that charge bonus is really what defines a shock troop, ie a troop with a superb offensive ability, one that can rush the enemy and produce a lot of casualties. is this right? Also, I have seen the term "mass" used for cavalty sharges, can anyone explain exactly?

I believe it to do the with the charge bonus as well. I would like to know. I think they are like more fragile heavy troops but they do good charge damage and inflict good damage and a quick morale debuff but are not so good in extended combat as heavy troops are.

you have 2 different things here, charge bonus is a bonus that is applied to attacks after a charge, it adds its number to attack and damage right after the charge and then slowly adds less and less until after 30 secs it goes to 0 bonus.

mass is the impact of the charge itself, it makes people fly around and deal damage based on basically the mass difference between charger and chargee.

this channel has a lot of mechanics explained

also please note the exact numbers and balance depends on the game and the DLC, for excample age of charlemagne is balanced differently.

Excellent video, but it still doesnt define mass, exactly. Says that one cav has more mass than another, but not why, or where its listed in stats.
