The best trait is cold blood though. Winter attrition applies for like 2/3rds of the map and seasockness only applies to like 1/5th of water map.
Get a modest mod that makes their rosters identical and then play the Geats.
And lastly attack your neighbors. Hrefenost has lumber which you should not bother with. Instead make it another useful building. Once you have Scandza its up to you. I usually make friends with the Barbarians to the south and attack Britain.
But Danes don't have Huscarls only the Jutes have Huscal units. Thats why I mentioned them.
Though Hirdmen are very good too. They both stand their ground and carve through units. Better on the charge though and shieldwall. Just wonderful units.
There is no Viking faction you SHOULD play. Play whichever you feel suits your style and you like.
I personally loved to play the Gaets.
