From the character page it seems 5 classes so far by browsing the characters.
https://swordcoast.com/characters
Rogue, Fighter, Wizard, Ranger and Cleric
Races: Derro, Halfling, Shield Dwarf, Human, Moon Elf, Gold Dwarf.
Everyone seems to expect additional race/classes through DLC..hoping it's not going to be too horrid.
"Choose from five playable races and six unique character classes to build your own stalwart adventurer"
I want my bard :(
That is the classes and characters for now, the Devs have already stated that there will be more coming in the near future after the games release. So defiantly expect more.
Races will probably be... Human, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, and...Dragonborn (Just to throw one monsterous one in there).
I'm _REALLY_ hoping they don't do this... There so much to a good D&D (A good reason why Neverwinter bombed, But Neverwinter Nights was amazing). Diversity of classes, abilities, exotic races...
But from what I've seen, it's going to be a bit too fast to get a good tabletop experience. I didn't really see any resource management (Wizards and cleris have limitted spells) what so ever... so it'll probably end up a divinity/diablo clone...
But I hope not... *Crosses Fingers*
When do I appreciate DLC? When it's outside of the scope of why you intially purchased a game.
Does anyone *expect* to buy a D&D game and only have 5 classes? Um, no. No one with any D&D experience.
It's just lazy IMO. Then again, this company could be different. They could be releasing FREE updates with more classes as the game goes on, but releasing pre-made dungeon modules and new assets as DLC, which I'd be fine with. Classes though, that's core stuff, not DLC.
Just my 2¢

I saw the The Witcher 3 released already something like 3 DLC but all free. Yeah but they sold already more than 4M units. They can afford them make multiple free DLC. No way SCL will sell that much and on such base they'll have hard time release multiple free DLC.
But most players can't get it because they don't realize they are targeting a more niche game with all the consequences this involves. It reach the absurdity when some players not used to indie games start whine about some qualities missing but clearly related to AAA budgets. SCL isn't at this level but it's still much more a niche game than a TW3.
Now I don't know if Sword Coast Legends is going to have archetypes (or if they do how many of them since most classes have at least 2-3 with the casters having a lot more) but fighter has already been seen using Battle Master abilities. Even if there are only 6 classes, if they have archetypes (which if they don't they are missing a big part of classes in 5e) then you can have, say, 2 fighters that play pretty differently.
