weapon question- sword of life stealing vs eldingar
So the sword of life stealing is an orange weapon with 3-12 slashing +1 dmg on hit and a 5% chance for bonus necrotic damage and life steal
Eldingar is a 2-10 slashing with a 33% chance to deal 9-18 lightning dmg to nearby enemies over 10 seconds

opinions on which is better?

Eldingar will be better against groups and life stealing will be better against a single target. It's generally better to focus fire down the enemies one at a time, so I would go for the life stealing sword, but you do fight a lot of groups and the extra damage should let the wielder keep threat which would be good for a tank type of character.

Why not hold on to both and use as needed.

just because both are slashing weapons i like to have slashing/bludgeoning

You're not limited to the weapons in your weapon slots, those are the only weapons you can switch with a key stroke. You can always switch to your inventory, even in the heat of battle and equip a different weapon. I keep around 6 or 7 weapons in my inventory for different enemies.

I think all the oranges are fixed. Some of the other weapons are fixed too. Any time you see an item with a name that appears to have taken some effort to devise, it's a safe bet it's a fixed drop. Most of the armor sets are fixed too, a bit of a shame there are no set bonuses.

However, a lot of the best gear you get is the green and blue gear. If you want good gear, run your level 20 characters through a random dungeon crawl and make sure the kill all enemies quest has you killing 10 inquisitors (guilded eye) or zombie ogres (undead). It should take about 15 minutes to clear a small dungeon with those enemies and each one you kill should drop a magic item. You can trade items between characters using the guild chest.

"Mad Fury" replaced my "Sword of Life Stealing," which I used for a good long time. Now, it's the "Greatsword of Terror." Second slot is a "Psychogenic Greatsword." "Hammer of Thunderous Blows" is the blunt weapon I have on hand, but usually don't use. So, plenty of weapons coming your way as you play through.

When playing the game I thought they could have allow 3 weapons sets, now I read that I really regret they haven't done it. There's a fairly good job on resistances/immunities and context and weapons diversity that 3 or even 4 weapons sets would match better.
