Sorry about the necro but for Google search and posterity's sake I would like to add that, yes, there is some decent loot in there in the form of a crown and an axe (1h), quite a bit of gold and some other nice items.
Secondly, I also ran into the problem that if you do not go to the Living Quarters right away but in the direction of the Moontear, then you are cut off from the Living Quarters because of a closed gate.
Don't fret. You can still get the key. Just fight your way back to Gracklstugh. You can then go back to the Ramparts via world travel from there and get the key from the Living Quarters. When you return to the area from this side, the gate is open so you can proceed to the Larders and get the treasure. It only takes about 5 minutes to run through it again. Piece of cake.
