Translation version: Working Desgins or Original?
I only every played the Working Designs version of translation on this game, but i have talked to people over the years says there are too many pop culture jokes in that version. Still, i liked it alot. So which translation version do you think the game will have?

Came here to ask this. Which script will they be using. And more importantly, which version of Winds Nocturne will they be using? At this point Winds Nocturne is such an iconic piece and the source of many Xseed vs WD fanwars that this needs a serious answer. Can we have both?
From what has been shown in the trailer so far (which is by no means comprehensive), it uses the WD script with a new dub. "New" as in brand new, not the XSEED dub from 2010. Wind's Nocturne has not been shown yet, but Wings has, and it has the 1999 lyrics with a new singer. Lunar Silver Star Story Touch uses the WD script (with some small edits) but not the WD dub, so it's safe to say that the script is not owned by Vic Ireland. As stated above, I modded the Mobile-on-Mac version to include the WD dub, so I'll be looking at this version for modding when it comes out too, though I can't guarantee anything till I see the game's file structure.

I think it'll be the WD one. Maybe slightly edited. The pop culture joke prevalence is overstated.

The PS blog had some screenshots with dialogue, and it looked like they're sourcing the WD localization.

So is it confirmed it is the Working Designs translation version?

Nothing is confirmed yet, since the closest source regarding the English localisation is from the Gung Ho's press release, and it does not specifically mention whether the script was sourced from Working Designs/Victor Ireland.

EDIT —

Ok. Guess we have to wait to see.

It says "The LUNAR Remastered Collection breathes new life into the beloved classics LUNAR: Silver Star Story Complete and LUNAR 2: Eternal Blue Complete (PlayStation 1 version)" on the website

PlayStation 1 version is Working Designs right?

COMPLETE in the title gives that away?

Part of me just wants a revised script to primarily remove the dated pop culture references and make it more in line with the original script.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the original WD script though.

Complete is PSX, but the Japanese versions are different in a few ways. They could easily be basing it off the Japanese one and not including the changes to the Western version.

Note that the voice actors, at least Jennifer Stigile and John Truitt were just as surprised by this announcement as any of us. So the WD voices are almost certainly NOT in the game (the trailer has a new singer, though it's very similar to Stigile's voice)

Pretty sure I saw a couple people say they think it's using the translation from the PSP version (Lunar: Silver Star Harmony) for Lunar 1 -- which has its own voice actiors -- but Lunar 2 never got a new release after PSX so who knows....
I've never played Harmony so I have no idea if implementing its translation and VA into the PSX version is even plausible.

Plausible, and done already for the dub version, of the fan translation of Lunar SSS on Saturn.

The PSP dub was more professional than the campy WD version. Closer to what you would expect from any modern anime.

I think it would be more interesting if GungHo were to go further with the dub in this HD remaster. New graphics swapping is one thing, but they could theoretically also dub more or all of the dialog in the game too. It would probalby become an annoying mess at that point though.

The iOS/Android releases of Lunar put the PSP VAs into the PS1 game, so it's obviously doable.

The campy pop culture references were fun but I'd like to see a revised script so I'm curious to see how the translated Japanese script will be if that's what they're using.
RPG Gamer Man Oct 2, 2024 @ 2:13pm
It would be nice if they had a choice of which translation you could choose.

If your curious now, https://www.lunar-net.com/ has a comprehensive list of script changes that WD made for the Western release and the original Japanese editions of the original Sega CD and remakes. In additional to other changes that WD did.

Interesting idea and if not, is it something modders can replace?
