Review Bombed?
I am confused because the game has a very low review score (54% positive) relative to other games but I only see one negative review. It's also only a day after it came out so that seems weird to me

The other negative reviews you're not seeing aren't in English.

Did the devs mention Taiwan or something?

If you translate them, they all seem to be on-topic and reasonable.

It's not the first time I've seen a large discrepancy with Chinese reviews. They might just be harder to please.

There are just a lot of chinese reviews complaining about the fast travel mechanic and having to walk a bunch. Which is pretty annoying to read considering I can not agree with the current state affecting the experience negatively.

This does seem to be the case. Their standards of quality appear to be much higher than other cultures based on how they tend to review games, though that could just be a general trend and not apply to every individual.
The Chinese community. They generally are more vocal about things they don't like compared to the rest of us, as they should be. It just looks odd compared to other games, but its normal.

From what I've played I would already agree that the fast travel sucks because the fast travel points are few and far between and don't seem to be in particularly helpful locations. It's not enough to give it a negative review over, though.
The fast travel design is a big issue in the game. The fact you simply can't do it from save point is a poor design decision. It leads to way too much backtracking. Does the game deserve a negative review for it? I dont think so. I think there more good here than not.

It's not like there are hundreds of negative reviews, the store page says there are only 75 in total right now. So the percentage is going to be very easily swung towards one extreme or another. Better to judge by reading the actual text of a few positive and negative reviews (as always).
Yeah I have noticed the fast travel does seem to be an issue now. I got to some area I didn't seem to have an ability for and could not find any warp points even near there to come back (fastest way was literally walking from the castle)

I still am surprised the game got ratioed over that. I don't see stuff like this often, does this game have a large Chinese playerbase? I thought it was like the Nobeta situation

I'm not sure about player counts, but my understanding of Chinese culture (based on memory) is that their government only allows them to play games for a certain amount of time per day, so anything that they see as wasting time is going to be seen much more negatively than other cultures with the freedom to take their time would see it. For us, it's a simple matter of having patience, for them it could dig into their limited time to play for the day.

I might be mistaken though. I haven't looked into it in some time, so I might be thinking of something else.

For reference, in China, minors are only allowed to play online games for one hour per day on weekdays and two hours on weekends and holidays, and only between the hours of 8 am and 10 pm.

Keep in mind that restriction doesn't apply to adults or to offline games. It's primarily intended to stop kids from getting addicted to gacha / loot box games.

Thanks for the clarification.

A stubbed toe would be enough for chinese folks to review bomb a game but I do agree that the fast traveling decisions are beyond questionable, you don't make a metroidvania and double down on the one thing that's most disliked - utterly pointless backtracking.
