I am not sure why you can no longer launch Forces of Corruption from Steam itself, but I can tell you that you cannot run it from the shortcut or swfoc.exe as the way Valve set up the expansion it is actually tied to Empire at War. That is why it will launch Empire at War instead of Forces of Corruptions when you use swfoc.exe. It is very stupid, and Valve SHOULD fix that. I sent in a support ticket awhile ago about it, telling them that it was not a problem of any user, that it happens to everyone, and that it has been there since day 1, and all I got was them telling me I should run steam as an administrator, verify the integrity of the game cache, blah blah blah. I told them about five times that I, nor anyone else but them, couldn't fix it - but I just kept getting intructions on how to fix MY Steam.
In fact, have you tried reinstalling the game in its entirety? Just a simple "delete local content" will not wipe as much of the game as possible from your system. You should check out my thread explaining the two known fixes for the FoC Invalid CD Key - those fixes just might help your problem as well. http://steamcommunity.com/app/32470/discussions/0/828938354940801120/
You cannot double click the game in Steam and get this?:
Play Star Wars: Empire at War Gold
Forces of Corruption
That is the ONLY way to run Forces of Corruption as of yet.
This, "Now, during the missing key crisis earlier last weekend, when I attempted to play, it gave me a window saying which one did i wanna play... FOC or the original game.. And i could choose.. Now it just launches EAW, not FOC, nor asks me what I want to play." Is what led me to believe you were saying you could no longer launch FoC on the Steam Library. Sorry for my confusion. But, unfortunately, like I said, you cannot launch FoC by use of a shortcut YET. There was a thread about a week ago, someone trying to create a launcher that was compatible with Steam, that would Launch both games. He has yet to say if it works or not.
the game IS playable, both foc and eaw
Are you even reading what I am saying? YOU CANNOT PLAY FOC VIA A SHORTCUT, it's impossible as of yet.
The problem with Steam desktop/start menu shortcuts is that they use a Steam URL. While these shortcuts will allow you to load the game without having to go to your library, it will only allow to you to load the original game through it. I've attempted to load the expansion directly through the exectuable for the game, but this also only loads the original game as the game forces authentication with your Steam account (to make sure that you own the game), then Steam relaunches the game as if it were launched from a Steam URL. As Greatsaga has been trying to tell you, you can only load the expansion from your Steam Library.
You sure did explain it better than me :P
Oh, no. I didn't mean that in any bad way, I appreciate the help :P
Use this launcher
or, if you prefer an ultra lite solution..:
Write your own script that does what has been described in the above thread.
sry for waking some old thread, BUT after reading SwiftBlizz last post it is really easy. I renamed "runme.dat" and "runme2.dat" to each other and therefore the normal shortcut will start FOC for me. (no asking what i want to start, but it is the foc)
