questions
so I'm not new to Visual Novels but I've never played one of this nature so I'm debating this title. my major question is pretty simple, Is this visual novel as good as everyone is making it out to be?
If this isn't recommended to someone new to this type of VN what game would you guys recommend to me. that's all I wondered. Thanks

It's highly ranked what else is there to say? The biggest thing to note is it is very long vn that takes lots of time to read all the way through. But there are lots of long vns and you likely know what you are getting into. Not sure what you meant when you said, "of this nature"
by, "of this nature" so you mean romance or somthing esle?
Um, that might have come out wrong because I'm not sure how to word it. What I mean by "of this nature" is I'm used to pure romance VN with Yaoi or Yuri on steam. I've played things similar to this, I play Otome games on switch but I'd never played anything with a male MC. That's what I meant. Sry if that came out wrong.
I hope I fixed the understanding somewhat. I didn't know the exact genre of VN this is under. I only know certain VN genres and those are Otome, Yuri, Yoai. I do know that other sub genres are Galge, Eroge, Moege and etc. I didn't know what one this falls under if that makes since. That's what I meant by "of this nature". I didn't mean to sound rude or dis this VN. I am interested in the VN, not trying to knock it you know? Hope that clears up my comment. 😃
Trying to expand my VN sub genres. Wanna try something new. I have other games I've been eyeing but I know nothing about like Clannad. Atri -My Dear Moments-, If my heart had wings and Ginka.

The opposite of an Otome Game is a Bishoujo Game. You can just call all visual novels with a male protagonist, that has all heroine routes, as a "Bishoujo Game" The sub-genres for Bishoujo Game are also the same as Otome Game, Bishoujo Game could also be an Eroge, Moege, Nakige, etc.

Also to clarify: Galgame is not a subgenre. Galgame = Visual Novel. Galgame just means a game that has attractive character routes you can romance (it can be an RPG or a simulator game as well), but it is generally in the form of a visual novel. A visual novel can have romance routes, but not always, so a visual novel is not always a Galgame. Galgame specifies there are "romance routes" in its game.

Under Galgame -> is Otome Game and BIshoujo Game, both are types of games that have "romance routes" in its games. Only from here, you can talk about the subgenres, such as Eroge, Moege, Nakige, etc.

To answer your question: yes, CLANNAD is very outstanding as a visual novel. It is good because it freely explores the psychological maturity that come from coming-of-age. Not only that, its comedy and slice-of-life elements are also very good, its story and characters are very dynamic, and all other elements such as voice acting and music composition just creates what feels like an ideal piece of literature in the form of a visual novel. The developers really took their time exploring the themes in the story in this visual novel, so the length is also outrageously long.

Oooh, ok. Thanks for explaining to me this stuff about Bishoujo genres and stuff. I will keep this in mind next time. Also about Clannad. I'll probably buy it during summer sale.

I personally haven't seen CLANNAD ever go beyond 60% discount. It was the same for sales back in 2021, 2023, and 2024, the discount is always up to 60%. You could wait until summer sale, but I believe it'll still be the same 60% discount,. I suggest you buy it during this sale or you might get a worse deal later. The discount might go higher, but you might have to wait a couple more years.

Ya, sadly can't buy it yet. I don't get paid until the 30th or 1st of the month, so I have to wait until later. Plus all the bills and etc to pay so idk if I'll have enough money until afterwards. Hopefully I'll have enough.
It's definitely at the top of my wishlist though.

CLANNAD side-stories will have a number of stories that could really be a hit-or-miss for a lot of readers depending on their favorite characters. I believe it's worth reading because there were a particular few out of the many that really stood out to me and I enjoyed it. The price tag is a bit unreasonable though, considering the VN is much, much shorter in length. I'd advise waiting for sale for that one, the highest discount I've seen for CLANNAD side-stories is 70% off.

And the Sequel? Maybe I might just buy Clannad and then during summer sale buy the Clannad bundle.

Ah I see. Well this developer has made many games. First off I don't think clannad is a bad pick for a first bishoujo game but you could look at some of key's (the developers) other stuff. There was a poll long ago that had all of the key games during that time it had all the characters in it and despite Key focusing on mainly girl characters a guy won 1st place in the poll. It was kyousuke from little busters. It's no otome game but it does have a popular male character in it and other male characters I think it has a bit more cross appeal then clannad.

Clannad is very long so it is a commitment if you want full value. You could just simply start with a shorter game to see how it feels. There is also just youtube that can give you a preview into the game. Clannad was my first I ended up stalling and finishing much later. Part of the reason was because the anime was fresh in my mind so it wasn't new to me.

You mean Tomoyo After? The current price is reasonable, but if you want to wait for a sale then the next 60% discount would be ideal for you.

Oh, just wondered. Thanks again.
Just play it you can get the anime’s route or just fück the another girls not literally just getting married or become a baseball pro player 👀, of course you’ll waste a lot of time and if you want to go straight for the point just consult a guide with every route and enjoy the stories also buy the tomoyo series and the other clan clannad VN.

Wow there’s a lot of text in the replies for your ask.
