The font makes me cry.

This is going to bother me to no end. Why is it so bad? There's like a full space between the apostrophe and double l. Why did you choose a monospaced font like this is a NES game? I know, complaining about fonts seems petty, but since this is a game where all you do is read, it's a pretty big deal! Is it too late to choose a better, proportional font? Because seriously guys, this is awful.

You should be able to choose your own font in the options menu.

Maybe they've chosen this font as default without much of thinking? Poor marketing then. And yes, you can change the font to whichever you want.

You can change the font in the settings menu. The font shown in the screenshot is the engine's default font.

Thank you for the reply. And yeah, not the best marketing move to make that font the default and the one all the screenshots are in. It just kind of looks... cheap? But hey, I'm no expert.

Is there another font specifically that you'd suggest goes well with the VN?

I used one of the Japanese fonts that came with NekoPara with borders before, and I think it looks a little better. The font used in the Planetarian logo also works, but it just makes everything hard to read. Amusingly, Comic Sans works pretty well.

Well, they say that Comic Sans is actually a very good font for people who are dyslexic.

But honestly, I would probably use Noto Sans or GNU Unifont if the engine allows it (looking at you, Ame no Marginal ).

I ended up changing it to GrisaiaCustom, which looks great. Sadly it is hard to find the font any more as it was included and made for the fan TL patch of Grisaia.

There is not exactly many options.... and all font choices is basically just as bad, I wish I could select other fonts then just the base unicode ones.

Anyway to force choice of font that do not show up? Have a bunch of fonts thats quite suited for long reading after all. the Ini file itself is quite confusing sadly.

Not really. Just google GrisaiaCustom.ttf, download, right-click > install.

The gap between the apostrophe and the double 'l' is due to it being a fixed-width font. Personally I like fixed-width fonts because they make all the letters line up. But then I'm a roguelike player.

TL;DR: (On Windows 10) You'll want to head over to Settings > System > Apps & features and pick 'Manage optional features'. Hit "Add a feature" and select "Japanese Supplemental Fonts". Wait a bit and... okay, now you've got the fonts. Pick MS Gothic in Clannad's settings. Done. Stop crying about Courier New and start reading :D
