you must finish all the others routes to unlock After Story.
the reason is a spoiler, but you'll understand why playing the other routes and then After Story.
- There's a short route (compared to the rest)
- There are several medium routes
- Some routes are quite similar to each other
- Some routes are very different from each other
- There is a very long route (obviously the canon pairing)
- There's even a joke route
* All the routes have their own Steam acheivements
** This VN is pretty hard without a walkthrough.
***If you managed to clear the VN, check out the anime...
If you've already watched the anime first and just starting the VN....well, its best done with a lot of patience and in short stints over time....since it is a lengthy VN after all.
For a non-spoiler this is very helpful. Nice to know that there is more than one route that a person can choose. I also learned in OreimoPortable that routes are not as simple as choosing one girl, it can also mean failing her route, switching routes, or having one that does not end in romance at all. This is what i like in VNs, it's variety of compelling stories, and that they are the embodiment of games that does not need 4k graphics to be great.
btw I checked out the first episode of Clannad, my only critique is that . . . why are the eyes of the girls to far away from each other? I watched Little Busters which is another Key anime and their eyes were fine. I kinda stopped there because I focused too much on their eyes rather than their stories, will i be having the same problem in the VN?
the eyes (and character's design in general) are even more unique in the VN, that's the Art Style used by Key for years in their works.
three things can happen: you'll like that particular style, you get used to it, or you'll hate it.
and well, that's up to you.
