Rising World

Hell Is Hell
Yeah, so I just started digging my way to it and still a ways to go and the temperature is 77C at -560. Umm, yeah, pretty sure that would cook my flesh pretty quickly, so as bad as the arctic is with cold and I've argued that it should be more survivable, I'm not sure how this is any way survivable. We'd need flame suits with AC built into them to survive there.

Love the concept, but this should probably be high end end game stuff, and maybe a good argument for magic to be added to the game to handle something like this.

And man, those deep dark caverns with water in them... they just scream for a dungeon to be in them. So waiting for that.

Ah the old fashioned argument from medieval times that all magic comes from hell but that aside, its existence should allow for the fantastical stuff and maybe have a bit of a Lovecraftian connection.

i think he meant that magic only could protect us from hells fire / heat. not that magic has its origin in hell.

@MustangMR - fully agree here. And i am quite disappointed that these wonderful caverns are only to be found that deep. While higher up we have to life with these ugly and unnatural "worm holes"

I wouldn't want a ton of them and enough dirt and stone that you could build on top of them without so easily busting through to the cavern underneath, but yeah I definitely agree it's a shame we don't have the big caverns closer to the surface. I'd love to have some breeches, etc. with vegetation growing on the bottom along with the natural pools.

yea, that would be awesome. i do not know why red decided to implement the caverns only that deep but keep the wormholes from java for the upper layers.

but im sure sooner or later we get more variations and better caves/caverns as well as vegetation in it. moss, fungus, mushrooms etc.

Yep, just meant that it will be as hard a stretch to go into those temperatures using technology as it would be to use magic for protection, but a Ring of Flame Protection might be easier to stomach than figuring out how to build a flame retardant space suit.

Though I will admit Draven brought up an interesting take on that, one I would agree with personally, but won't debate here. :)

Smaller caverns would be cool along the way, and I think they could frame the dungeons that I hope are coming. I usually build walkways across the water down there and set torches all around and it looks so cool. Would be even cooler to discover a cavern and see a fortress lit up with torches, torch carrying skellies walking around protecting it, and all ready for the sacking.

Some players build houses with basements or several underground floors. Others build Moria or an underground city. The dungeons have not been implemented yet and space must still be provided for them. For me it makes sense that the caverns are so deep. It also takes longer to dig down, so the player has something to do.

Red mentioned in a discussion that he has plans for "underground biomes". So chances are the upper underground layers will feature more than the simple tunnels we get now, at some point.

When? Guess not even the devs can tell. Just wish they manage to do something in the likes of what Minecraft did, but as immersive as the surface biomes of Rising World were done.

I was thinking about how a magic leveling/training system would be fun, it dawned on me that it's rising world and not rising character. Maybe a progression system based on what you can build is better. There could be different research projects you can do with the new builds to unlock materials or substances. In that case it might lean towards science, and you'd have to have prepared items or substances you can temporarily apply to items, and fuel/ammo type items. Some substances could have multiple paths of creation using replacement ingredients. There could be differences in potency and effect length. Imagine making a bunch of thermal oils to coat your gear for set amounts of time. you could use whatever gear you want. But that would have to have a limit you can stack focused gear.
