Multiplayer
This topic is outdated. Find more information about multiplayer here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/324080/discussions/0/1692659769945102432/

Here you find all relevant information on how to play multiplayer: https://forum.rising-world.net/index.php/Thread/109-Hosting-a-multiplayer-game

You can host your own game, either by hitting the red LAN button in the singleplayer menu and give your IP to your friends (when your ports are forwarded, you can play via internet), or by starting a dedicated server (you can download it here[download.rising-world.net]).

Keep in mind that the dedicated server has additional performance costs, so if you also want to play the game yourself, it's recommended to start the LAN server ingame.

My wife added the permissions file to the server folder so we could both play creative on LAN but now when she is in creative her game is in black and white.... any ideas?

Nevermind the problem just fixed itself... very very strange. Love this game BTW!

Is there a guide on how to move over the server files from a local computer to a dedicated server? I recently stood up a Linux Mint VM, got everything ready minus a pesky java issue but am not sure how to move my server on my Mac over to the Linux box. I took the world file in the Steam folder and dropped it onto my Linux box but that's as far as I have gotten so far.

Sorry for my late response! Basically you already did the major part of the whole procedure. Once you've moved the particular world file into the "Worlds" folder of your server, you just have to edit the 'server.properties' file. Change "server_world_name" to the name of your world, and make sure "database_type" is set to "sqlite".
That's it, once you start the server, it should load your world ;)

Unable to connect to ANY multiplayer game- other games I have work fine with multiplayer, have no firewall issues or anything else. I get NO ERROR messages, just get whipped back to the main page. What's up with that??
red51  [udvikler] 25. mar. 2016 kl. 10:05
@Vividicci: You mentioned in the other topic that you never had to create an account and still have no username? In this case it's likely that a security program blocked your connection to our servers (when there is no connection to our servers possible your game will basically run in offline mode). What firewall and antivirus program do you have exactly?
Vividicci 25. mar. 2016 kl. 10:22
I have nothing active, just made sure again, although SpyBot is often running(but wasn't) I did find and register on the site, but is there no way to link my account with steam?

Is there maybe something else that may block the connection? Even the Windows firewall or programs like Windows Defender may cause this issue. Also make sure that your system time and -date are set correctly (otherwise there might be issues with SSL).
You could try to go to the game directory, open the "config.properties" file with a texteditor, and set "game_debug_console" to true. Now start the game (a small output window should also appear then), and once you're in main menu, switch to the small output window, copy the content and paste it here ;)

Okay here we go; seems like it's been told to skip registration/login, not sure where to fix that but that's progress, I suppose!

red51  [udvikler] 26. mar. 2016 kl. 14:27
@Vividicci: Thanks for the log! The game is indeed unable to connect to our server ("Connection timed out"), that's why the login/registration step was skipped. There must be something blocking the connection.
Or are you behind a NAT maybe? That's often the case when living in a student residence, for example.
Vividicci 28. mar. 2016 kl. 9:02
...Husband says there is nothing on my computer that ought to interfere; we are on wireless internet however, and he says the ISP uses a NAT, and it's not something I can change. :(
red51  [udvikler] 28. mar. 2016 kl. 10:50
@Vividicci: Usually it shouldn't be a problem when the ISP uses large scale NAT or "carrier-grade NAT". But you mentioned that you are on wireless internet, do you use a separate WLAN router, in addition to the regular router?
Also make sure that there is no integrated firewall in the router that blocks the connection of the game.
Basically the game tries to establish a connection to 51.254.77.202 over port 6001, if the port is blocked, there is no communication possible.
Sometimes it may also be possible that the ISP proxy blocks non-domain based queries, eventually try to visit this link: http://51.254.77.202/
You should get a message that the domain is not available (in this case everything is fine). If you get a "Page not found" or something similar, your ISP probably blocks the connection.

this really sux... i have forwarded the ports needed (i LAN a LOT) however my friend still can *connect* i have given her my IP etc... but it keeps timingt out? does shee ALSO need to PF or just me??? And if just me... why is it not working when i know exactly what i AM doing!?!?!

Also WHEN are you going to make the *friend* list *functional!!!!* then we CAN blooming join on LAN without all this hassle :P

EDIT: the above comment it says *site not available* so MY end is working fine! and its just her then???*

Please try to connect to a public multiplayer server, if either you or your friend cannot connect, it's something on your or his site (maybe firewall or antivirus program blocking the connection). If both of you are able to join a public server, it's most likely related to your configuration: Did you forward all required ports? By default it's port 4254, 4255, 4256, 4257 and 4258 TCP and UDP. You can see if your ports are forwarded by visiting this website, for example (just enter the particular ports there): http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
If your ports are forwarded, and both of you are able to join a public multiplayer server, it may be something else. Do you have an IPv6? If both of you already have an IPv6, your friend can connect to your IPv6 address instead, this does not require port forwarding at all.

Btw.: If your friend wants to join your game, she/he does not have to forward his ports.

The feature "connect to a friends lan game via friendlist" uses peer-to-peer, which is unfortunately a completely different networking approach than the classic "client-server" model (which is used in RW). P2p is great if you just want to play with a few friends, but makes big or dedicated multiplayer servers nearly impossible.
Due to the huge differences about how networking is handled (and stuff that is related to this, like world generation etc), implementing this feature is a lot of work. Unfortunately this is something that can only be done once the game is in late beta stage.

It should say that the domain is not available. However, this is only relevant if you cannot connect to the hive server (i.e. having a red connection icon in the top right of your main menu) ;) This doesn't matter if you want to play a LAN game, but when you have no hive connection, you cannot connect to public multiplayer servers
