Making a server
I havent found much of anything showing how to make a server using the dedicated files. I have downloaded them and changed the server properties to what they need to be etc, but how do I start the server?

How do I open the server file and do I need to put the server file in my game file? Theres nothing showing you how to use the dedicated server files. It jumps from open these ports to the end stage of inviting friends through the ip.

The dedicated server is a "standalone" program, it does not matter where you extract the files, it has nothing to do with the game directly ;) To start the server, there are startscripts for Linux and Mac as well as a bat-file for Windows.
But if you just want to play with your friends, it's better to just start a singleplayer game and send your IP to your friends, then they can join your game.

I've removed your email address, it's recommended to better not post it in public forums ;)
To download the server files, login with your jiw account (the one you created on initial game start), then go to downloads and there is a button for the dedicated server (a zip file, which contains the bat).

In that case your server cannot communicate with the HIVE server. Either your configuration is wrong, or a firewall/antivirus program is blocking the server.
If you run the server on your private machine (btw., when playing with friends only, you will get better performance when starting a multiplayer server ingame), make sure you don't enter an IP in the config (then the server binds to all ips).
If you want to play in LAN only, you can disable HIVE verification for your server (in the config).

Go to your singleplayer menu -> select a world -> hit the red "Open for LAN" button ;)
Alternatively download the dedicated server files and run the server (there is no difference between "LAN" oder "Internet" server^^)

How do you find my IP to give to my friend, and is there anything other program I need?

Depends on what IP you're looking for. You can see your local IP (but your friend can only connect when your computer are locally connected to each other) on Windows when pressing Windowskey + R -> type "cmd" (without quot. marks) -> type "ipconfig" (it's the IPv4 Address).
If you're looking for your internet IP, you can have a look at websites like https://www.whatismyip.com/
Keep in mind that when using your internet IP, you have to forward your ports (default ports 4254-4259 TCP and UDP) unless you use IPv6.

When using hamachi, you have to use your hamachi IP
