is there a command to remove all grass?

Unfortunately there is no command to remove grass. But you can remove grass with the scythe (craftable at the workbench) ;)
Btw. we will add an option to disable grass at least in singleplayer soon.

It helped me to go in to the config file and reduce the detail distance from 3 to 2.

That option would be helpful. I chopped down a tree on a slope and totally lost the apples and logs in the long grass. It's way too long, lol

well i have two camps so due to the long grass i was able to make a road to each and then put torches along the path

When you start a new world you can choose to have no vegetation. No grass but also no trees for wood and no vegetables to eat...
So only playable in creative mode...

You can also go into creative mode and paint the ground with dirt or short grass.

I dont think it should be disabled but lowering it a bit would be nice.

or grass height variation would be awesome and give the world a little bit more natural look
