Clothing & Temp Issue
So, I made it to the Arctic AGAIN. And I wore the face covering plus the woolly cap and the fur suit. AND I carried a torch. I still lost health due to the cold. Kind of an issue since we can't really craft anything warmer, yet. Suggestions? I wasn't in the water - and was dry.

Going out in a snow storm in the arctic is near suicide even in real life. When it's snowing, and it snows a lot up there, I head down into the mines and mine. Wait for better weather to work on the surface.

I built my house and greenhouse over a cave, so all I do is walk down and go to work.

True but I thought Red said if I wore the fur suit, the face covering, and a woolly cap I'd be fine. Yet, I was not. So, I didn't know if something inadvertently got changed when he did the hotfix with the ore spawn rate. There wasn't a blizzard when I went out the last time. It was snowing lightly. I dunno. Maybe it's not supposed to ignore health when you're wearing the only clothes we have...and you'll just freeze if out there for a particular length of time. Just wondering. *Just checked my video - it was at night and not snowing.

Yeah, I kinda remember that but think it was misinterpreted. I've done the face covering and woolly cap too and don't notice much difference in the basic sunny day arctic, and it doesn't help when it's snowing. I still take damage, but I think it's right. Even with that extra covering, being out in arctic snow could be quite dangerous. I've found it's best to just hunker down and wait it out, though with my settings, it will snow all day long, so that's why I just head down to the mines.
I place down a large bonfire near where I am gathering things. As I get cold I run to it to warm up then gather again. Once I have gotten what I need, I pick it up, move to the next location, place it again and go from there. I was able to survive the cold that way.

I did a similar strategy but used the campfire. I still lost health, though. But it was manageable. I just thought I read that certain clothing kept you warm. 🙂

Maybe the bonfire is better than the campfire.
You shouldn't lose health as long as you don't go below zero for too long. One reason I asked for temperature to be on the GUI along with health so we can see exactly how cold we feel without having to open up the inventory screen. It seems to me we go through the temperature cycle too fast, losing heat almost instantly as soon as we walk away from the fire without time to do anything. I guess if it's -20 out there like it will be in the arctic it makes sense, but our clothes should at least buy us a few minutes before we start taking damage.

Right! I've walked in -70 with the windchill. Didn't have fancy expensive gear on, just layers and of course, bundled from head to toe. However, I made from my doorstep, no fire or torch in hand ;), and to the mailbox which was a good 1/8 of mile down the road and back. Now, you don't FEEL that cold because it's so cold. And it's dry, which is why you are advised to have all skin covered and not stay out long. I wanted to see what -70 with the windchill felt like. it's cold! And it hits you when you get back inside. Very strange. So, I think, even in the Arctic, in game, we shouldn't lose health if we're away from the fire for a few minutes. Once we have clothing options, if we fail to put enough warm gear on, then, sure. Health can deteriorate. But -70 was doable, bundled, no skin exposed for maybe 10 minutes, there about.
