Aluminum in the snow?
Man, I must be dense. I've spawned up a two new worlds to play with my kids local and can not find aluminum. I even am flying to the mountains with snow and spawned an ore detector but can't locate on on either world top side or in the mountains. They seem devoid of all ore. My world can't rise. Help... Great job as always Red51. This game is breathtaking as we all know you strive for. Thanks!!

Aluminum is in the arctic biome with are their own islands to the north. Gold is in the arid biome which is it's own islands to the south.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't find aluminum yet =/ Since the latest update, aluminum no longer spawns on the regular (temperate) island, only on arctic islands, as mentioned by @CursedXistence... so even if you find a tall mountain (covered in snow) on the starter island, it won't contain any aluminum unfortunately...

To get to an arctic island, you'll have to craft a boat and travel over the sea towards north. North from your starter island, there is always an arctic island, and south from your starter i sland, there is always an arid island (where you can find gold accordingly) :)

Ooooh, this makes sense. I was merely going off the map. Thank you. I'll keep hunting.

OMG. I understand now. When making a map its entirety is only the starting area. Exploring off the boundaries brings up new areas (IE the arid zone for us) and fixing to explore north for the Arctic zone. 1 thing I did find is the ore detector did not seem to register Gold. It wouldn't allow me to upload a photo here. Unsure if applies to Aluminum as I haven't scouted it yet. For anyone this might help. :D

I went to the Artic and have been on 3 or 4 different islands there. Penguins, polar bears, artic foxes, wolves, I think, but zero aluminum. I got the new chests encased in the ice but no aluminum. Is it rare? Underground? All of the snow or ice covered boulders say frozen rock. 🤔 Also, the fur outfit and the baklava(?)hat don't keep me warm. I'll stay warm for a bit and then start freezing again. There's nothing else I can make to wear. So, I'm stuck at the fire pit. Suggestions?

Carry a lit torch and that will help a lot - also you will find the aluminium ore rocks in amongst the denser wooded / forested areas - That's where I found a lot without having to dig.

Thanks. Was mostly on the edges of the islands, but traveled a bit into the forested areas however got chased out. Throwing it into peaceful mode until I find what these look like. Appreciate the response! :)

I have set the availability of ores to "high" and do not lack of any iron or coal. But indeed Aluminium seems to be still rare. No idea how long i was digging and didn´t find even a tiny shred of it in the arctic region.

I found some in a cave, though it seems in the arctic region caves are more rare? Even the rocks in the forests were mostly just rocks, not aluminium ores.

Once i had sufficient to get the metal detector it was a bit more easy but still compared to iron or other ores it was rare.

I have my ore set to LOW and I found a lot of aluminum just exploring the caves. Found several veins in my first cave, so it's just random luck whether or not your cave crosses a vein.

One thing I've noticed is that if I find a vein of anything, there is often another vein nearby, so keep an eye out for that one little shiny pixel in the dark. I also use a sledgehammer to round out the caves and sometimes that exposes a vein that is just outside the cave wall.

You can find big stone boulder in the forest, the more bright stone are sometime contain aluminum. You can sometime see the different to the normal stone (darkerI in the forest on the Artic island. I have found so a lots of Aluminium but need running around a lot too. :-D

The latest hotfix slightly increases the spawn rate for aluminium in the arctic region :) But as mentioned by @Costigan and @Tommy, spawn rate for the surface boulders is higher in the taiga/forest areas in arctic regions ^^

Make sure to also wear some headgear, like a wooly or ushanka (in addition to the balaclava), that should usually be sufficient, at least during the day (unless there is heavy snowfall or a blizzard).

Ooooh, I need headgear in addition to the balaclava! Good to know. I managed to barely survive a blizzard on the sailboat. Figured out that I can "ESC" to get access to t he compass, water, food, and such by exiting the boat and then entering again to sail. Found aluminum and got some gold on the way too! :D

Yes, I finally found the aluminum! Thanks guys! Almost died from cold and a blizzard but made it. :D

I did finally find a good bit of aluminum but NOTHING in the amounts of Iron ore or even GOLD! I got about twice as much gold as aluminum. It was indeed deep in the forested areas in the artic. NONE were on the beach/coast like in the desert. I found bunches of gold ore along the shore.

My daughter actually found that jumping down the world formed caves gets you to the fastest nodes on the walls as you spelunk. Easy in and out couple hundred later we hunt aluminum with the metal detector now. :jawawink:
