Gold is in the desert though to the south. Easy to find that as it's just gold stones on the ground like iron ore. It can also be found below 200 ft I think.
On arctic islands, aluminum can be found mostly around the surface level. If you find a mountain in the arctic region, aluminum spawn rate is even a bit higher there ^^
Alternatively you can also find aluminum boulders on the surface in the arctic region (although they're a bit hard to spot because they're usually covered by snow).
can gold and aluminum still be found underground?
yes of course.
Aluminium = arctic biome
Gold = desert biome
The game automatically spawns an arctic region due north of your starter island, and a desert region due south. You will need a boat to get there as it is too far to swim now that being cold and wet causes damage. A rowboat though will get you there in 10 or 15 minutes though, depending on where you start from.
One word of advice if you're not totally familiar with the game. If you row into a blizzard, turn around and try again later. It's a difficult survival challenge if you're not ready for it.
I'll let you have the fun of figuring out the blizzards. :) They're not instant death, but they are dangerous to be in now.
That's sad. I don't play Survival anymore but I was used to find aluminium on mountains.
Red has also said that there are aluminum stones on the surface, but they're covered in ice. Go to an icy field and look at the stones with your mouse. It should say aluminum ore in the bottom left corner of your screen if it's an ore stone. Use your pickax to bust through the stone and harvest the ore.
