Living under Ice...!?
Is it possible to terraform under the arctic ice and dig out rooms? Would I need special gear/food to survive? Could I use a fire pit inside of it?

I'm on survival with peaceful mode

(I'm preparing for future ice fishing) 🎣

If you mean the ice flows, yeah, you can dig into them and get ice rather than stone. I'm not sure they're thick enough for huge underground houses, but you can try. I've been in caves that have underground ice area. They might be thicker.

Can you fish in the water on the arctic biome?

Yep. There are lakes up there just like the other regions.

Now that the game distinguishes between fresh water and sea water, you'd have to find a liquid lake for drinking water. And I don't know whether there are liquid lakes in the cold biome.

If not, the alternative would be to import a mainly-liquid vegetable like tomatoes or watermelon and grow that.

There are. I did a survival challenge and created a new world and immediately ported myself to the arctic. Finding a lake to setup a base camp nearby without freezing to death was the first challenge. Eventually found a really good one, and there are little puddles scattered around that would work to get a base going for further exploration later, if you can find them.
Do it. Im making a mountain home rn and its way better than a cabin. Once you dig so far down the arctic it seems like you dont get cold. For fresh water just keep digging down until you find fresh water aquafer close to hell. Its pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome my suggestion went in the game btw :D

That's awesome! I shared some screenshots of the beginning of my ice home.

it maybe a bad idea to ask, but what suggestion do you mean?
Aquafer
"Aquafer"

and what would it be?
I remember no such term in the updates of the last years...

would you mind to please explain yourself in a bit more detail?

The underground caverns right above hell with the water in them is what they are referring to.
oy... and how is the term a ... term for those caverns? *honestly puzzled*

[edit] *whiplash search engine*
okay, that may refer to an https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquifer
whoo... ahhh... hmmm...

with a lot of fantasy...
yes, the underground caverns may DEPICT a low level aquifer...
but...
his idea?
his suggestion?

*Plays the card "doubt" with a def value of 255*
