Can we get iron in the desert?

Can we get iron in the desert? If we can, can we start a new game in the desert?

Yes, iron can also be found in the desert - but you will mostly find underground iron there.
There is also a small chance for surface iron boulders to spawn in desert (in actual deserts only), but it's usually easier to explore a cave to get some iron ;)

Right now there is unfortunately no way to spawn in a desert by default... we're still thinking about adding that. In multiplayer, however, a server admin could set an arbitrary spawn point (using the setspawn console comamnd). Of course that also works in singleplayer ^^

Right after spawning, you could use the command "goto #desert" - this will bring you right to a desert island ;) If you use "setspawn" then, you can set the default spawn point to your current location.

I started over on the map I was playing and built a little base on a small island. Which turned out to be a good thing because I died when 3 bears attacked me.

Then I spawned back at my base and bandits were trying to get to my base. I'm so glad I built on a small island that has to be swam to.

When I started over I used the console and typed set then I got a list of console commands that started with S. You can try opening the console and typing goto and maybe it'll give you a list of the goto console comands.

Yeah, I'm aware of the help it gives us. It doesn't usually give all the options though, just examples and I have to ping Red to get the full details. :)

Yes indeed, "goto #arctic" brings you right to an arctic island ;)

It's our intention to implement a more fleshed out teleport tool (where you can also set up custom locations on your map). But for now, here is an overview of all special keywords for the "goto" console command ^^

gotosurface  -  teleport to the surface
gotospawn  -  teleport to your latest spawnpoint
goto #primaryspawn  -  teleport to the primary spawn (if set)
goto #defaultspawn  -  teleport to the world spawn (wilderness)
goto #secondaryspawn  -  teleport to the secondary spawn (if set)
goto #deathposition  -  teleport to your last death position (only during session)
goto #desert  -  teleport to an arid/desert island
goto #arctic  -  teleport to an arctic island

Thanks, Red. One last question... do those #desert/#arctic always take you to the default islands around the starter island? Or will they take you to the closest one?

They will take you to the closest island the game could find, based on your current location^^
