Rising World

Rising World

How big is the map exactly?
I ran in a straight line through surreal for twenty minutes before my computer finally gave up and crashed the game on me,,,,lol. Seems I can't find the edge.

Im curious too.
Trillnar Oct 15, 2015 @ 5:05am
rising world is virtually endless. If your game crashes just reload it and it will keep going. There is no end .

As Trillnar said, basically the world is endless ;) Unfortunately you run into precision issues after travelling big distances, causing the game to become more and more glitchy. It's our intention to do something against that, but it has a low priority at the moment ^^

That has got to be the coolest thing I have ever heard in a game. So much for my plan to build a base at the end of the canyon I was running through though. I half expected to end up back at my starting point which would have been equally impressive. Did notice the glitching and I fell through once. Hows that going to work with the new biomes? I would think if I head north I find snow and south I find desert but if its endless.......is there an infinite axis compared to a finite axis or something?

Yes we considered to make the world eventually round (or in other words "planet like") - so after travelling a long distance, you arrive at your starting point again ^^
We are still not sure about that.
Having the "endless-terrain-approach", biomes will be spread randomly over the map, so it does not work to head north to find snow, and south to find deserts. But if we decide to implement a "planet-like" behaviour, this would be probably a nice idea ;)
Nevertheless, the Y axis (up/down) is limited. The the very bottom of the map (it's quite deep) you find a hell.

By the way, when falling through the ground you can press F2 to enable flymode and return to the surface safely :)

Found the Hellscape unforutuantly since I am on a laptop I wasn't fast enough to hit my FN key and F2 to fly before hitting lava for an instant death. Since you have Hell is Heaven implemented or going to be if you fly/ build high enough.........Would love a spherical world option but who doesn't want thier own planet. Any intentions of allowing people to bring in models made in other programs? (Blender being may goto program)

Outerra Anteworld may have what you're looking for. On top of that, they have a google overlay map that shows your exact position on Earth in terms of the game world.

Red52, I suggest you make two world-gen modes with one being a 'flat-world' & another being rounded to see what kind of fun us players would be able of it. Both are beneficial in their own way with various sorts of things happening. For the rounded-world it be amusing to see railways & airships floating about. Same with horses, cars & all that other stuff connected to one another.

Doesn't have to be now, yet could be something for much later for various game types & to play with people's various play styles. I guess eventually resources may run out so being able to pop elsewhere for non-renewables may be something to consider. Pop into other alternate dimensions? I guess scaling the round world may be interesting from a pre-gen point hmm.

Sweet talking about this as it was also brought up on the main forums so I'm glad to see it here again. North & southpoles would be sweet with how warmer biomes would be inbetween.

Personally i don't really like the idea of a map that is not endless.

Idea in Game Settings
world Type
* Flat (endless)
* Flat (You can reach the edge of the world ) think asguard in Thor or Old Sea Maps Here there be monsters
* Sphere (small)
* Sphere (medium)
* Sphere (Large)

*Heven & Hell ( this could be and option even for a flat wold or a unique world )
*Water World ( no land or minimal land )
*Desert Island World ( one or Many Islands )

*Earthlike ( Verious size and scaleing options with the land and water laid out like Earth)

Yes this would be more than perfect. But i also think this is like very unlikely that this can happen.

Yes, yes, and yes

Imagine if in the Adventure mode when your charchter died you went to Heaven or Hell based on your interactions with NPC's or PC's.........and played a demon or angel trying to get back.......

So many possiblties, still just have to see what the Devs are willing to do depending on constraints and priority.

I could really care less about an endless map of a handfull of repeating biomes. I'd rather see the devs spend time on creating more detailed content that can be interacted with by the player for those biomes and refining what is already in the game. As far as a round world that would be ok but not game breaking to me (unless planetary exploration is planned)

I'm happy you mentioned what I wanted to say that these should be extra world-gen options. I guess it either slipped my mind or got lost in my wording. But yes, basically what I said above while giving you lots of respectpoints :)

Seeing what is over the next hill keeps me exploring. I am never disappointed. And one thing I have noticed with the last update, the ground is a bit.....rougher, with more hills and rises. And most cave entrances seem to be surrounded by bare, stoney margins instead of just grass and a sudden drop off. I like it though. More realistic.
