Sorry that this happened, that's very unfortunate!
True, you can also set how long before your mortal remains despawn. I have been able to find my body only once and that was when I fell off of the tall spiral stairs I was building outside my house so it was an easy task. You even get a little cross to mark the location of your demise. I put flowers on mine. My others are deep in some dark lonely mine shaft or under a heap of tiger poo.
Make sure you have the coordinates of your base at hand. You can do so by pressing F3 and in the top row you'll see your coordinates. Write them down. Then, if you die, type 'setspawn' into the console. You'll respawn on top of your dead body. Loot your deceased bald clone. Then use F3 again to navigate back to your base. Now go to sleep in your tent or bed to reset your spawn point.
