Rotating blocks less than 90 degrees
Has it ever been considered to allow blocks to be able to rotate LESS than 90 degrees ( for architectural purposes) ?

Beams and blocks are identical, the only difference is that beams stretch and shrink, but I see no reason for you not to use beams instead of blocks.
You can leave the beam to the exact size of a block and apply any texture. ;)
I play the game in survival mode with no plugins so I still need beams and blocks its only creative or using plugins you can apply any texture

Walter already said it - with planks and beams you have nearly limitless freedom. resize them, change the angle for turning, the radius, positioning detail, whatever else you desire.

@Walter - there is one thing where i agree with StaariZA - planks and beams can not be placed in row as easily as blocks.

when i see your buildings thats not a big thing for you but i imagine others prefer another style. i also enjoy that feature when building a huge wall

you can use the console to spawn the planks and beams in any texture you like.

example:

1. open console with the ^ button (the one below ESC)

2. item woodbeam 1 63 (spawns 1 wood beam with texture nr. 64)

isntead of woodbeam you can use "woodlog" or "woodplank"

settings are:

setr = sets rotation angle
setp = sets positioning detail
sets = sets sizing detail (steps to make object bigger or smaller)

right ctrl key holds the object in place so you dont have to hold your mouse all the time

PgUp / PgDn and arrow keys can maneuvr the object while right ctrl is activated

Shift + PgUp/PgDn or arrow keys allow to resize the plank/beam/log

Right Ctrl + PgUp/PgDn or arrow keys allow changing rotation / angle

its a bit tricky to figure out but you can do pretty amazing stuff with this.

I ahve to admit though that the plugin planks and beams takes over the manual console commands and makes life a LOT easier

yes, they do - but its not the same as placing in a row

Is the "sets" console command the same as "setl" then? I still use that to change sizing steps.
Avanar Mar 12, 2018 @ 12:17pm
yea, thats the same

Block shapes will eventually be converted into sawbench objects. Its on Red's plate but just not sure when this is happening. When it does, they will be less restricted as are the planks and beams.

I hope so. Be nice to have that ability to make even more intricate designs.

90 degrees only is too boring

@wolfchacer you can!! what you do is make a beam with the same texture as the blocks you are using. resisize the beam to the same size as a block. Then you can rotate any degree you want, down to 1 degree. helps to use the planks and beams mod (accessible by typing /pnb in chat) so you can apply any texture you want to the beam vs being limited to what the bench offers

It is considered for a future update, eventually the construction system will have some improvements.

If I recall Red did say he was working on a means to rotate blocks to any angle. Not sure if he worked out the code or not or even when he has it in the development schedule.

It would be very helpful in creating semi-round structures out of blocks.

You can do so already. Just use a plank with the size 1 1 1

He did say blocks as well if I recall.
