How to find my way back home?
When I played Rising World earlier, there was always a red needle on the compass that pointed to my bed. With one update last year this one got lost, but it was promised to came back soon.

Now I started again playing half a year later, but the needle is still missing. Any other way to find my way back home when exploring the world?

Thanks for answers

If you have not made a map yet, you will have to search the path. When I do not have a map, I usually put torches every 500 yards to guide my way back home.

I do not know if I understood your comment, but this is not a game "bug", it does not have to be fixed, it's part of the mechanics. Exploring without a map in a virgin world is risky, so you can mark the path by knocking down some trees and putting some torches. I recommend you prioritize map creation.

Red stated this needle was removed but it will be probably added again in a later patch

Until then you can use the map, mark your path or in sp just teleport via console to your base

I'd put in 'gotospawn' in the commands, create a map at my base, then you're free to explore further. :)

I thought this was intentional, to justify making a map early on.
I like the current way, with the compass pointing north, with no arrow pointing the way home.

If I recall correctly, it was removed intentionally, but player feedback made Red change his mind. The compass was very handy indeed and, frankly, it made me lazy because I didn't have to pay attention to anything around me - just keep my eyes on the little red triangle. I was unhappy when it was removed. Now I will never use the compass again (map, sun position, and clock is what I use). The compass is so limited, even with the marker.

I've come to love the map. There is so much more to it than just the marker pointing to home. It holds so much valuable terrain information once you learn the terrain symbols. The fog is removed in a decent sized area around you. You'll never be surprised by the holes in the ground and you'll know when you're getting close to dangerous terrain (forest, snow, savanna) even if it isn't within sight range.

I like to map out the size of a particular biome by traveling all around it's outside edges. This mapping helps me get a sense of how things in the world are connected. Then later I can always go back to that biome and explore inside of it or try to figure a way around that area if I discover that it (massive forests in particular) blocks access to where I want to go. You'll also know how to navigate back to that big lake or beach or mountain range you came across while out exploring your world.

I could never do without the map again. I would never have even tried it if the compasses hadn't been changed.

I agree that the map is superior in many ways.

However, the compass has it's usefulness too. I have found it very handy in keeping my direction true when I'm mining, or just traveling in a specific direction.

I don't miss the red marker ...

mark you map or dont venture far until you have one.. put markers around so you know.. if all else fails commit suicide and respwan in your bed.
