importing 3D models
I saw somewhere but can't find it now, that we might be able to import models as .obj files at some point. This would be great as I've failed so far to learn Java (installed Java & Netbeans, started the Oracle tutorial, program wouldn't compile, gave up). But I've got quite good at 3D modelling in Blender, and I understand applying .png textures via UV maps too, if that could be arranged.

Perhaps this plugin will help. Your texture image may have to be changed however.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I guess this is Java and I don't have a clue.

You don't need to be a developer. The plugin is already written. Just create a "plugins" folder in your game directory and extract the plugin into a same-named subflder. Instructions are on the thread on how to link in your object files.

OK I think I could do that. But all my textures are .png files, I've only got Photoshop Elements - is there any (cheap) way of converting them to .dds?

There is a NVIDIA Photoshop plugin available: https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop
Alternatively you can use this tool: https://vvvv.org/contribution/dds-converter

If the plugin is installed properly, you will be able to select the "D3D/DDS (*.DDS;*.DDS)" file format when saving your image (File -> Save As...). Then a NVIDIA dialog will come up where you can change some settings: If your image doesn't contain an alpha channel (i.e. if the image is fully opaque), you can select DXT1 compression, otherwise choose DXT3 or DXT5 compression. Select "2D Texture" as texture type and check the "Generate MIP maps" box under the MIP Map Generation options. Then hit the "Save" button to save the file (there is no need to adjust any other settings)

It's in "steam/steamapps/common/Rising World". To get there, you can rightclick on RW in your Steam lib -> properties -> local files -> browse local files

Copy the file in windows then rename it to your model name leaving the.model part
ie: statue01.model

open with notepad or even better with notepad++, change what you want and then save
