Rising World

Rising World

World Size
I'm well ware that the world size we have now is 'infinite', yet there's plans for it be 'unlimited' much later down the line, or at the least micking what Minecraft does by being 8 times the size of earth. I'm bringing this up because I become frustrated when I'm trapped in a linear game, or when I'm stuck in something like Skyrim type maps, Grand Theft Auto, and etc. I need a big enough map that it feels unlimited in illusion.

I'm just wondering when Red51 shall consider going parallel in world map size with Minecraft (8x, or so), and how big is the world currently. With these upcoming updates that shall continue to fiddle with world generation I don't want to hit the world boundaries just yet. I feel like I'm trapped in a cage that I'd much rather leave Rising World idling, shackled in how far to travel.

There was this concern of stability issues that making the world too big would cause corruption the further away you travel away from spawn, something that Minecraft has experienced, thus having the 'Faraway Lands' as a barrier.
------

- How big is the current map
- How big is Red51 planning to make world maps?

And if I may, I wouldn't mind it being the size of the Earth, or even paralleling Minecraft. Just big enough where I won't have fears of feeling cramped in a box in various manners, including anticipating updates. Also why I shy away from console Minecraft, and the Vite version especially (1000x1000 is nothing).

-----

Edit: I typod infinite as finite...I meant 'limited', not 'unlimited'

Secondly, while I have this thread here, is there any way I could assign permissions in Open Lan? I want to allow my friend to be able to blueprint, yet he has no persmissions to be able to do such. This is also in preperations for the dungeons, among other updates so we could world hop onto the same seed, or any other types without losing our builds.

Would be nice to allow my friend to be able to save his builds.

Thirdly, able to add in an instruction for blueprints in how to confirm it in the game? Something like right clicking it to open up an inventory to save the blueprint would have been nice to know.

wehn I did my old world it seem to me I went for miles and still not hit the edge of the map, then I all so was on a map in they build for as far as I could go and there was no end to it.

Yeah, I guess that's true when I was also heading in one direction heading for miles. It has me wondering though.

Yeah, this is just something for convenience until we switch over to a 1 world ocean biome with many islands and island continents. It's a hassle to map hop, yet I'd love to be ready.

Thanks, Blue. That's just what I wanted to hear. Well, I guess I'll also just see what happens when I do reach various boundaries.

Has anyone ever reached the edge of the world? I don't recall seeing any posting about it.

One person has, thus my concern. One or two people, yet never noted how large or long it took them. It's just that they probably wondered if it was possible which had me all paranoid about going into newer chunks as to not reach the edge.

I wonder if we spawn in the center of the world map. That would explain why most of us never reach the edge.

That seems to be the proper way to handle things (starting in middle), unless in an RPG or RTS game. Minecraft & Lego Worlds does it, as would Rising World and every other game. Makes the most sense so you don't lose that immersion.

Actually the world is "infinite", at least there is no limit to the world generator. However, you will run into precision issues sooner or later. Since the implementation of the logarithmic depth buffer, the situation has been greatly improved, but it still limits the playable area. If you're 10,000 blocks away from the world origin, you will start noticing minor visual glitches (but I'd say it's still very playable), if you're 100,000 blocks away from the origin, the glitches become much more intense, playing at these coordinates is possible, but annoying.

The "playable area" is quite huge, and I'd say it's sufficient, even for big multiplayer servers. But it's our intention to make the world really "infinite", even though this has a relatively low priority ;)

Thank you for explaining things red51 !
I love having such a big world-- I am not so adventurous as ArcticKitsu, so I doubt I will ever reach the edge of the playable area :)

edit: unless we get trains! Then I will travel far and wide.

THat's what I meant, and typo'd. I feel stupid on that. I meant infinite & limited. Stupid typos.

Well, not sure how far I went, yet assuming I'm still within the 1000 to 5000 range. I'll have to make note to stay within the 10,000, adding onto the feeling of being shackles at times, something I try avoiding when playing the likes of Minecraft & this game. I just want freedom of exploration.

Glad you guys said so, and I guess it'll be your priority when the game is considered complete eh? More for that 1 world ocean & many island continents push. Yeah. For now I just want to map hop as little as possible, yet am trying to prepare for it.

Also, I never did get a reply about giving persmission to my friend to blueprint in Open Lan. I'd love him to keep his builds while doing things his way.

Horses & trains is the reason why I'm posting also. They'll help push our boundaries further, yet with what Red51 said we'll be seeing issues that I feel like I"ll be playing in a small sandbox. Once you play enough you'll have to give the game a rest, or whatever happens.

Yeah, I'd rather have the player models & animations out so I can have horses & customization, yet had my fears with the map size.
