MODS: What are essential mods for KotOR 1?

And I don't mean that wussie Taris-skip mod. I'm looking for bug fixers, content additions, and imrpoved textures. If there aren't reliable mods available yet, then direct me and others who view this post to a website/page that is monitoring a KotOR 1 modding project. Please and thank you. More than just me will appreciate any input.

Now, I haven't been on the modding scene in about three years now, but when I was I'd frequent KotOR Files almost everyday. Shame the site has been half broken for so long. Anyway, most of these mods abide by my own taste. Results may vary.

We'll start with Bastilla.

Bastilla's Romance Enhancement - Swaps the vanilla fade to black with a simple kiss.

Bastilla's Romance Enhancement Fix - IIRC, it fixes a glitch that can cause the actual default romance to be caught in an infinite loop if you're Dark Sided.

Bastilla On Korriban - Allows her to go with you on Korriban where before she would refuse to leave the ship. This restores many of her fully voiced cutscenes and commentaries.

Now for some general improvements.

Dead Bodies Stay - Corpses will no longer disappear but remain right where you killed them. Originally the engine would have most of them disappear after a while to save your 2003 PC from having a heart attack.

Realistic Movement Animations - Gets rid of a bad "waddling" effect when you walk.

Realistic Visual Effects - Gets rid of dumb looking glowing hands and blades for skills like Power Attack, Critical Strike and Flurry. Removes motion blur on Force Speed.

Blue Blaster Fire - Changes Disrupter shots from white to blue. I like adding more colour to my fights.

No Force Restrictions - Allows you to use your Force Powers while wearing armour. Slightly unbalances the game but it's nice to at least have the option available, even if you don't use it.

Most of the rest that I use are skins and added armour. Revan's Items by ChAiNz.2da and Revan's Longsaber for example. There is also a fix somewhere for Revan's Items.

Some people like to use mods that let you wear Stormtrooper/ Clone Trooper armour or change Lightsaber hilt models but I'm not one of them. Most of these are well done but terribly anachronistic, which is why I avoid them.

Restored Lower City Mod - Restores a cut section that lets you access the swoop area where you fight Brejik (Not much but nice)

Restored Black Vulkar Base - Adds a cut area in the BVB (Im replaying the area but so far i've seen an area where the armoury used to be)

Undercity Restored - Allows you to find Gammorean axes that are sold to a trader 100 credits apeice, also minor additions to the sewers.

It seems that all of the download links on filefront are broken, I keep getting the "403 - Forbidden" message. Are there any other sources for these mods?

Try searching KorOR Mods and filefront will show up and it should actually work. They update thier links so you can get anywhere as long as you can get on the site (at least that's how it seems to work for me).

I did, and the download link sends me to Game Front. There I press download, wait for 5 seconds and then I get that error message.

I think the file's broken. I tried to open it with winrar and save it an both options resulted in an error message telling me the files needed were not present. Pretty sure it's just broken files, at least for that mod.

try Brotherhood of darkness. it adds a few hours of game play onto the game. its a good mod DLC.

How do I install these mods? Will it screw up my game saves in progress? Because I'm half finished and would be in a frothing rage if I accidentally delete them with mods...

Extract all of the files in the Override folder in your game directory (if you don't have that folder, create it). Some mods come with their own installers - in that case you just need to point the installation to your game directory.

Just be wary of mods that contain .2DK files, they do not work on Steam version of the game and will mess up your saves. I have around 10 mods installed and none of them use this file type, and so far the game works fine (about 15 hours in).

You can uninstall them by deleting certain files in the Override folder, however I don't know if that will effect the saves.

i got mods to make most of your non-Jedi companions (save for HK T3 and Zalbaar) to become Jedi. Give it more of that KotOR 2 feel i love. also a mod for a Black crystal for your lightsaber
