Can't do anything on the menu screen
Everything loads up and gets to the menu screen and then... nothing. No sound, and I can't click on anything, and I have to force it to close via task manager. I've tried restarting my computer, I put it on compatability mode with XP SP3, ran it as an admin... Nothing is working with this.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Edit: Also it was working fine last night and now it's not.

If you're on Vista or Windows 7 (especially 64bit) this seems to be a fix for a lot of the issues. http://www.gamefront.com/files/9360713/kotor_2_vista_fix.7z

They're literally the exact same engine. This fix works for both.

You can always scan it anyways. It's not like a dll will run on its own, needs an exe to do something with it.

Anyhow, glad you got it fixed though I suppose.

Edit: Also it'd be pretty stupid for gamefront to host a virus for 5 years with 240k downloads.

It's just a safety thing. I seem to get viruses for the weirdest reasons and I don't do a whole lot of web surfing or downloading. So it's nothing personal, it's me being OCD. Besides there's always that one in 240k chance

Erm... you know how viruses work right? They're files MADE to do harm... A file doesn't have a random chance to do something bad, it's simply a virus or it isn't. If it were a virus all of those 240k people would have downloaded viruses.

>> I know what a virus is, thanks for insulting me.

I wasn't insulting you... you just said there's a 1/240k chance of getting a virus from that file which kind of implies that somehow that file could be a virus despite all of those statistics... Sorry if you took it that way, anyways I'm unsubbing, bye.

I was implying that the file could have a trojan.

Yes, and I had just told you that it has 240k downloads, look at the page yourself. It's gamefront... you can't exactly fake the statistics. Any two bit download site would remove a file after 240k people have downloaded it and it has viruses. Hell, you could go to a torrent site and a file with viruses will be removed before it gets anywhere near 10k leeches.

Anyways really need to unsub.

Got this off the web to fix mine. it worked then stopped working. But after I did this i was able to still get it to work with a little clicking. When I now press Play and the screen goes black I immediately just left click the mouse to quickly skip the opening videos. and when I get to the menu I can click and start/load a game. But I did the following steps first. Hope it helps.

Three separate fixes have been popularly told and none of them worked individually for me so I decided to put them all in one thread.

The following fixes got the game to work on my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 graphics card. (ATI is sometimes said to cause problems with this game)

First, disable In-Game Steam Overlay for KoToR. This can be done by heading to your Steam Library and right clicking KoToR and selecting Properties.

Second, navigate in Windows Explorer program files or program files 86 (this depends if you're running 32-bit or 64-bit windows) > steam > steamapps > common > swkotor > and then run swconfig.exe which should be found in the swkotor folder.

Third, after this applet is up, uncheck the "Use Hardware Mouse" and check the "Disable Movies" (this just disables the intro movies, to my knowledge).

Also, if you're still having problems I've heard some people suggest running it in windowed mode.

It is a joke that a game I bought through steam would not work directly after download. FAIL!

I just went into the KOTOR config file and disabled the movies. Seems to have worked

Anyway to fix this without disabling Movies?

I think the only thing it really disables is the stuff before you get to the menu screen... but don't quote me on that
Zuko77Elendil Dec 24, 2013 @ 1:36pm
Alright... It's fixed now :)
PsychJay Dec 25, 2013 @ 12:47am
Yeah so far only the beginning movies before the menu were disabled on mine. going through, all the cutscenes all still work in my game.
