Is the GOG version superior?
Saw that on the PCGamingWiki[pcgamingwiki.com] article it states that the GOG version is compatible with newer systems, and I remember having horrible problems with the steam version (needed to disable videos for it to even work, meaning most of the story content would be cut, plus strange visual bugs) so I'm wondering if I would have better luck with getting the game to function better from GOG.com?

Has there been some patched new release of the game (and its sequel) in the recent months or something?

I have the GOG version and the Steam version (and the XBox version, I love this game!).

With the steam version, it crashes for me right after character creation. With the GOG version, it just works. I'm running Windows 8.1 w/ Radeon R7 graphics and vanilla GOG install with no tweaks whatsoever.

I haven't had much time to play the GOG version so my opinion is formed only by the fact that it isn't DOA like the Steam version.

Plus GOG has no DRM. In my opinion, GOG wins.

Playing on the Steam's version and I just have some stucked character sometimes ( solved by pressing left+right clic and quicksave ), and one or two minor bugs that a loading solved. Nothing gamebreaking in 36 hours ! ^^

I think i am gonna buy the GoG version..because i can't seem to make this one run.

Most GoG games also come packed with DoSBox to make them run properly. You could try getting a dos emulator if you're having trouble with steam games, don't know how to set that up to work but that is why GoG games work better, they run in an emulator

Hmmm... My Steam version runs well. I will get the GOG version too just in case.

I'm looking to play this game, is there any mod i need to download before i start playing? ( Like the TSLRCM 1.8 mod for KOTOR 2) Using Win 8.1 btw.

I've only had one crash, when leaving the DLC space station.

The Kotor 1 equivalent of TSLRCM is K1R:

It is by no means essential (and I'm not trying to offend the modding team behind K1R by saying this).

GOG and steam versions are the same in this case. Both have the issue with the black bars. Both HAVE to be forced into windowed mode. The guide that gets this to run on steam works for the GOG version. I am honestly at the conclusion that this game CANNOT run properly AT ALL on modern hardware

Very true (regarding having to do the same procedures for both GOG and Steam) but I think the GOG version is slightly more stable. I had next-to-no crashes on the GOG copy.

Both are as unstable as ever for me. It doesnt make any sense as to why steam would sell this when it is so blatently broken

That sucks then. Steam's just a distributor and like all games: they just give you the latest official patched version of the game. Unlike GOG, they don't have a policy of games working "out-of-the-box" (hate that phrase).

Usually when I want to know if a game might require some effort to get it working I check the system requirements section. It's a good indication in pretty much any event.

That doesnt matter. To me it is a sign that steam has a lack of quality control but we are both well aware that that horse has been beaten to death and back and then back again . I must've spent 3 or more hours to get it to work alittle only to find more glaring issues.

If this was a backlog title from decades ago or something from Greenlight I'd 100% agree with you but yeah: this is just a classic that hasn't received any love from the developer/publisher.

Steam definetly has a quality-control issue that I won't even delve into :) I'm sorry you've had a rather crap time with this game and I understand why some might be understandly frustrated (this is one of the few titles that requires a lot of effort to get running nowadays).
