Is it just me, or is the Light Side OP?
I just finished KOTOR 1, and I have to say it was a great game :D

But through my gameplay, I found myself always having a light jedi in my party, despite playing as the Dark Side(at least, until the last encounters)

That heal man... that heal! It was just amazing, and saved me a gazillion in medpack costs and allowed me to focus on the persuasion skill completely. And I could use it everywhere, instead of just in combat vs living entities like the sith drain life.
And the party buffs, the destroy droid abilities were also amazing.

Now, I'm no expert, and I'll probably not do another playthrough(as the first took me 30 hours, lol), but I just got the impression that the Dark Side simply couldn't match the Light Side in terms of sheer sustainability and optimalization :P

(the nature of buffs also made them superior vs force resistant opponents)

Simply not having a Light Jedi in the party made the game a lot more difficult, and having 2 Light Side Jedis made it really easy :D

Im no expert myself, but i know what your saying. the destroy droid, that third force push move(i forget the name) heal, all were powerful moves. i have one party member who has a few dark side powers(mainly because what he lacks in health makes up for with lots of force power and he is neither light or dark so its the best fit), and force choke may do damage while debilitating, there are better moves(mainly that force push move because it can hit a group and a chance to stun as well the damage with knockdown as well). best of all destroy droid is so cheap when your light side pluse it hits a group that theres little reason not to pick it up(7 force to use? even a Jedi guardian can spam till all droids are dead). it really feels like light side is stronger, but then again, i have only played light side charaters so i cant really compare the two well.

Nope. A Consular type character with high Wisdom and Willpower who is also Dark Side is the most OP thing you can have.

All because of Death Field.

You can storm the Star Forge using literally nothing else. You can Kill Malak using literally nothing else. All you need to do is run around and use Death Field on the Jedi in the stasis pods, then spam it against Malak himself. The fight is over in just a few minutes.

Who needs to heal when you can inflict massive damage AND heal yourself at the same time?

And use force storm for good measure.

I think from what I've heard from others, light side is more geared at tanking while the dark side is more about damage. Although I have only done a neutral character, I've seen a lot of good items for both light and dark side.

As for light side companions, some are really good. Mission is a killing machine if you can get her to do sneak attacks. Juhani is always nice to have as an extra jedi in the party. Zalbaar is a pretty descent tank. I rarely used carth so I'm not sure about if he's good or not.

Carth is okay if you put him in armors with high Dex bonuses so that he has high chance to hit and high saving throws. I personally think he's better than HK but not as handy as Canderous, as far as blaster-based non-Jedi companions go.

Dark side powers are about debuffs and damage to enemies as noted above. They require high WIS in order to overcome the enemy's saving throw. Light side powers are more boring to use since they are mostly passive buffs, but can be used by Jedi with low WIS (i.e. your first-playthrough guardian). Plus the single greatest buff is neutral (master speed) so light and dark can both use it. Heal is good, but it becomes more expensive, not unusable until full dark, and most characters will have zillions of medpacks and no better skills to put points in than "Treat Injury" anyways.

IMO light is better for melee Jedi, but dark has better powers. Use "Force Kill" one time with a high WIS consular and tell me dark side isn't more fun!
