Soldier - Wrong number of skill points?
Hey, folks. I just bought this game - still love it - and I started up a new Soldier character. Got to the bridge of the Endar Spire and noticed something weird - even though I had an Intelligence of 12 (mod +1), and got the correct number of skill points at level 1 (12), at level up it only gave me one skill point.
Started a new soldier to test this afterwards, giving her an 18 (+4) int, got the right number of skill points at the start (24) and then proceeded to only get 3 skill points on level.
The Soldier, based on the Fighter from d20 systems, is supposed to get 2+Int Mod skill points per level, right? So, for my 12-int soldier, it'd be 3 per level, and for my 18-int, it should've been 6 per level... weird bug, I suppose, or else I'm missing something.
Anyone know if there's a way to fix this?

Skill points at level up are determined on how high your intelligence is. But im not sure of their crazy mechanics if its bugged or not!

What's confusing me is that it's acting like the Soldier's skill modifier is IntMod - 1 instead of IntMod + 2, which means you literally get -nothing- out of your Int stat if it's below 14... kind of frustating to think that my 12 int was literally wasted points XD

...huh. So, from what I understand, the reality of the situation is that Soldiers get (1+IntMod)x4 skill points at level 1, and then 1+(IntMod/2) per level after... which means that yes, Int really IS completely useless for Soldiers. That... seems ridiculous. Hrrrm...

Ya you have to set your intelligence to 14 otherwise the game rounds down. I'm not all that adept at explaining things so you might want to check out this thread it helped me quite a bit

basically a soldier gets 2+ int modifier/2 so if you have a modifier of +1 you get 2+1/2=1.5 and the game rounds down to 1 so if you have a modifier of +2 then you get 2+2/2=2. So in that case your better off leaving int at 10 or bumping it up to 14 otherwise you're just wasting points.

Right, but... that means for -every class-, Int does practically nothing? If it's anywhere from 8 to 13, you get your base skill points per level, and if it's 14-17, you get 1 extra. 18 gets you 2 extra. That's... really pathetic, and kind of awful XD I guess I might as well leave my soldier at an 8 intelligence, then... save the points for elsewhere.
I wonder if there's a way to mod it so it does skills the proper d20 way, instead of dividing it by two? Might overskill Scoundrels a bit...

Actually, thinking about it, every class but the Soldier does take a small penalty from having an 8 or 9 Int. That's kind of hilarious.

The different classes have their own equations, but I'd recommend checking out the bioware thread that I linked in a previous post it has a lot of good info that'll help you make more informed decisions as to point allocations.
