KOTOR Fullscreen
I had been looking around on the internet for fullscreen fixes/hacks for KOTOR and found two that seemed to work for everyone except me. One involves launching a program called Flawless Fullscreen and another involves using a cracked .exe and a patching program. Neither of these fixed my issue; the game would never run in fullscreen and I could not change my resolution. But I finally fixed it.

1.) KOTOR will behave properly, from what I can tell, at 60hz. I have a 144hz monitor unlike most. I dropped it to 120hz and still no bueno. So if you are using a 120hz monitor, you will need to drop down to 60hz.
**If you can not change it to 60hz via nvidia control panel or windows advance resolution settings, download strobelight. Use the strobelight-setup.exe and check off your refresh rates. I did 60, 121, 144. Reboot.
http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Strobelight-LightBoost-Utility-for-AMD-ATI-and-NVIDIA

2.) Using nvidia control panel, whatever AMD offers lol, or windows' advance resolution settings, make sure your refresh rate is at whatever you normally have it (144hz for me).

3.) Go to you steam library and find KOTOR. Right click it and select properties. Select set launch properties and enter -refresh60

4.) Launch the game. Your game should launch fullscreen but you will have a border. Go to resolution settings in the game and change it to it's highest then exit the game.

5.) Go to your swkoto folder (where the game is installed) and open the swkotor.ini. Find graphics options and make sure it looks like this:
[Graphics Options]
RefreshRate=60
Height=1080
Width=1920
V-Sync=0
Anisotropy=1
Frame Buffer=1
Anti Aliasing=0
Texture Quality=2
Emitters=1
Grass=1
Soft Shadows=0
Shadows=1
Brightness=57
EnableHardwareMouse=1
FullScreen=1
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

**For those that previously had their game run in windowed mode, change to fullscreen=1. If you still do not have fullscreen, add AllowWindowedMode=0 in addition to changing to fullscreen=1
****You can max out your setting AFTER we get it fullscreen.

6.) BACKUP SWKOTO.EXE!! Go to this link and follow its instructions for patching your game:
http://www.wsgf.org/article/star-wars-knights-old-republic
**yes you will have to use a cracked .exe although I was able to patch and replace the exe and have it work. But I tried it again and it doesn't so just leave the cracked .exe unless you figure out my accidental work around.

7.) To be safe, check your .ini file again for resolutions. If it's 1920x1080 launch the game.
**In-game menus may or may not have a border but your actual gameplay will not. If your UI is screwed up, there is a link for the different resolution fixes at step 6.

8.) I think that covers everything. GOOD LUCK!

THEORY:
One COULD change the resolution of the videos to their desired and that COULD preven the game from minimizing when videos load. Worth a shot.

@MagusDave: Thanks!

I have been searching all day to get Kotor 2 to work on my setup, with me finally realizing that my issue was related to having my monitor only support 120Hz/144Hz. Based on your information I went ahead and used the Nvidia control panel to add an "unsupported" refresh rate i.e. 60Hz profile, which fortunately does my monitor no harm. I was then able to finally launch the game in fullscreen at my monitors native resolution (1920x1080)... before this the game was stuck on 800x600. Even better, after launching the game I switched back to 120Hz and the game is still running fine. Woot! I am leaving this message here so that other people that search for Kotor 2 and 120Hz will find this message.

Thanks guys this fixed my problem - playing on 100+ hz was causing the game to start 640x480 windowed mode, and there were no options to change resolution. Swapping to a HDMI cable and setting refresh rate to 60hz in Windows resolved the problem.

Hi guys. I am trying to play game on a laptop with a native res of 1920*1080 at 120hz. With Nvidia Control Panel, I was able to add an unsupported 60hz refresh rate, but am worried it could damage my display. Since I am using a laptop, I have no way of replacing display if it gets damaged. My question is, how can I tell if 60hz will damage my 120hz display or not? Thoughts and help greatly appreciated :)

Hey, so I’ve tried the same programs you’ve used prior to this fix so I’m going to go ahead and try this when I get a chances I have a 144hz monitor also. Mine is 2560x1440 tho. Would I still do 1920x1080 or my native resolution when changing settings? Also you’re saying to change Nvidia settings to 60 hz correct?

@Cattsass: ideally you want to play at your native resolution or as high as it allows you -- but yes, you need to set it to 60Hz initially. Good luck.

Hi Guys, also playing on a laptop with a native 120HZ display. Found this thread after trying both of the patches also to get the game to fullscreen. After trying to change to 60HZ I get the error that it is not supported on the bandwidth of the system. I went to the swkotor.ini file and changed the refreshrate=60 to refreshrate=120 to test if it will work. The game worked fullscreen on this setting and without any issue thus far. This is after applying both patches and only changing the refresh rate in the swkotor.ini file.

Can confirm this.. Set my refresh rate to match what my laptop is 144 in this case and it fixed and i have 1080 fullscreen

I tried every fix, but I still had crashes. I never saw this mentioned though... My fix was to set my "RefreshRate=60" in my swkotor.ini I can play full screen and no crashes so far.

Hi guys. I am trying to get game to run in 2560*1440. Used UniWS, applied k1hrm 1.5, and hd ui menupack. Main menu doesn't look right, has black bar on left side of screen. Help appreciated :)

Failed work for me, double check if I hadn't skip a step but nope.

One potential problem is I don't have the res Height=1080 Width=1920, but has Height=1200 Width=1920 or similar. Windows 10 advises 1200 but also the 1080 setup, but change windows to this res changes nothing for the game inside a rediculous tiny window.

When in game I check res offered it shows none.

Dam Mac version was working like a charm and this windows version is pure junk with zero maintenace lame.

So, for a 144 MHz monitor... should set refresh to 72 instead of 60. 60 is a non divisible number into 144 and doesn't sync 'well' whereas 72 = half of 144 and should sync better with the monitor. Just throwing that out there.

Mmm, I didn't knew that Widows had a 119,878Hz setup, so there's this step I never did, ok I'll try redo all the boredom again.

it's weird the game has synch problem when options quote no synch, another programing with feet, lame.

so much work just for a resolution fix ...
I made every step but the last few after downloading the weird software is overhelming for someone who don't like to mod games and stuff. Screw it i'll play on 1600p I guess ...
