Soft Shadows and Frame Buffer unavailable, any way to turn them on?

So, I've loved this game since I first played it and picked it up on Steam awhile ago. I wanted to play it again, but I've noticed that these two specific graphics options show up in the in-game menu but cannot be selected.

I modified the .ini file with the AllowSoftShadows=1 line, modified Soft Shadows to =1, and Frame Buffer=1 as well...But no success.

Is there something else I need to do, without downloading any specific mods? Is the Steam version patched to latest or not? Any help anyone could give would be appreciated!

Having those enabled causes problems for most people I wouldnt bother. The game isnt going to look x10 better with them on.

@discobob Thanks for the reply...Unfotunately, I am running a nVidia card in both my notebook and desktop rigs. I imagine the fix you linked would work anyway, but before running it I thought I'd just ask if there would be any conveivable difference first?
