Disney is FIERCELY protective of their ip's.
I'm hoping this comes under the banner of "total conversion" but, let's be honest here. Disney just spent BILLIONS aquiring the rights to Star Wars. They didn't pay billions to have "their" stuff given away for free.
Legal or no, this won't happen. Disney's lawyers can fire off so much red tape lawsuits that the guys doing it won't stand a chance. It costs to challenge each suit, remember.
Remember Microsoft, back in the day? How they'd file lawsuit after lawsuit in the hope of draining their opponent's finances (and willpower) to fight back? Even though their opponents were legally in the right there's just no way they could afford protracted legal battles.
It won't happen. Disney aren't EA. EA would just buy the studio out and give them jobs.
Disney will go for blood.
Except they did create a new knights of the old republic. It is just terrible.
Still, it IS Disney remember:
Scary stuff.
KOTOR is still considered part of the canon, as is Battlefront, despite it having no story.
Yea, KOTOR is basically dead now, even though the SWTOR mmo is still in the top 5 for OVERALL ONLINE GAME PROFITS for 2015 and is getting progressive development.
If you want to cry about the murder of the EU ill agree with you all day, but pretending KOTOR wont get any development when they literally just ported it to android a few months ago just shows how stupid you are.
It doesnt matter what story is in it. It is canon. You can easily look up what is included in the new canon.
This game also wont get an "HD version" because this game isnt capable of being "spruced up" without a complete rework.
Even *IF* Disney allows this, the amount of work needed to see this mod through to completion would be enormous. That is why so many huge mods for games don't ultimately get released - the team bites off more than they can realistically chew and real-world life issues gets in the way.
I really do wish the team well, but call me disappointed after reading that click-bait topic title.
