For begining of the game, the Military Suit is the best for the cheepest you can get. by the time you get to the point after the caves on Korraban, your Jedi Characters should have Jedi Master robes and your main Non Jedi Party members should have some kinda Hevy armor.

I only buy one suit of armour during the game and that is for my main character (I am quite happy to avoid force powers restricted by armour in favour of the extra defense armour provides) So initially my main character uses the Echani fibre light armour found on Taris, after Taris Davik's war suit and (when I can afford it) the Heavy Exoskeleton purchased at Yavin (which when upgraded has almost the highest defence and increases strength). I almost always start as a scout so can wear medium armour.

That allows Carth or Canderous (I never use both at the same time) to wear the Echani armour on Dantooine. Eventually Canderous gets Calo Nord's armour since he has low dexterity anyway and Carth gets Davik's war suit since it is the best armour that doesn't limit his dexterity.

Obviously all upgradeable armour should be fully upgraded.

On Taris I give Carth/Canderous/Mission the most protective armour that doesn't cap their dexterity I can find (find rather than buy). I never use Mission in a combat situation after Taris so don't need armour for her.

Just sell the rest.

If you choose to give your main character jedi robes instead of armour all of the above except buying the suit from Yavin still stands.

The highest defence armour in the game is Cassus Fett's but I'd rather spend the money on more useful stuff.

If I remember correctly it is sold by the rodian merchant on Dantooine and costs 13,000 credits (possibly 15,000). It is upgradeable and gives a defense factor of 13 but limits dexterity to 0 (so not for characters relying on dexterity for attacks) and is heavy armour.

Again iirc the Heavy Exoskeleton (actually medium armour) gives a defence of 12 and Calo Nord's armour gives a defence of 11.

I forgot to mention armour for the droids. Use whatever you have for T3 on Taris, again I never use him in combat after Taris. For HK47 the strongest armour is sold by Suvam Tam out at Yavin. I can't remember prices for his stuff (expensive) but if you beat him 10 times at pazaak he gives a 20% discount.

it does not drop your dex to 0 it just does not let you use it to better your armor class meaning armor does not hinder your to hit roll
